I too would send you the Belgian/Dutch route, though, I was trying for ages to find a moderately sized Dutch, to mostly no avail. It seems that many Dutch breeders are aiming for brindle GSDs. Most of the lines I was looking at, the males were being touted at 90 ish pounds. I would say it would probably be easier to find a right sized Belgian, especially if you went for one of the fuzzy ones.

I agree with the Belgian/Dutchie/GSD route! Sounds like they'd be just what you are looking for!
Scout's poofies are pretty low maintenance. My only real complaint is that I have to perodically stop and cut the hair out of the vacuum brush because her butt/tail poofies are so long. Unless its got tree sap in it, stuff doesn't really stick in her fur and its pretty easy to keep raked out.
That said, one of the many reasons on the list that I'm wanting a Malinois for my next dog is the super easy care coat.

I like ACDs a lot and I have NO doubt that the right one would be awesome, but I can never seem to find the "right one" when I look. Hmmph.
The size on the Dutchies is an issue, indeed. I think I have a better chance of finding what I want, size included, in Belgians. But I wouldn't say no to the right Dutchie.

While Mals are lower grooming maintenance (like almost no grooming) but the hairy Belgians are fairly easy too. At least if they have a correct coat. I pretty much never brush my dogs at home. Every other month I take them to work with me, bath them, blow them out and do a quick brushing. Sometimes they go longer, especially when they aren't shedding or showing but I never have any major matting issues or anything. They dry really fast for hairy dogs too. I can have one bathed, blown out, brushed and ready to go home in about an hour.
You could just keep your options open, look at breeders of all varieties and wait to see which one has an ideal litter in the works within your time frame.

I also wanted to own all black animals one day since I tend to wear a lot of black clothes, lol. However, I am now in love with Siamese cats and Mals, so I'm SOL.
However, Panzer is the most minimal shedding of all my animals. When she was a puppy I found that she shed a lot, but she was eating kibble. She's been on raw for about 6 months now and barely sheds at all. She has also never had a bath. If she plays or swims in mud I just have to let her dry and it magically disappears.
