What are some good but easily found joint supplements for older dogs. Since the move Peewee is having a hard time getting around. I'm sure part of it is the flooring we now have (wood laminate). I have throw rugs down for him but they only work if he will lay on them. Getting up is the hardest for him.

We had Shadow and Bandit (RIP 10-27-11) on glucosamine and chondroitin with MSM under the advice of our Vet at home. Our Vet here (beach) told us that there have been studies done, that show dogs do no better on them, than they do on placebos. He switched us to Cosequin DS. It is regulated and the percentages are guaranteed to be what they say they are. Whereas the other is not.
I give Bailey Dasuquin chewables. They're very easy to find; I think I got them from Amazon last time.
Bailey's vet for his physical therapy recommended it, so it's what I went with.
I'm sure there are good, less expensive alternatives, though.
You may want to ask your vet about Adequan, which is an injectable. (It can be pricey though, FYI.)
And fish oil is always a good idea, if he's not already on it.

I've been using synflex since Jan for my GSD. She has arthritis in one of her elbows and was really stiff in her hips. She's made noticable improvements in her movement since starting it. The vet has even commented on how much more energetic she's been since starting this supplement. The bottles are only 8oz, but for my girl the bottle lasts just over a month.

If you're not sure what it all does: Glucosamine sulfate can help rebuild joint cartilage and prevent further loss of it, chondroitin is used in conjunction with MSM for anti-inflammatory properties, and some studies show MSM is also an effective pain reliever.

I will check out those things. I know part of his problem with the laminate is lack of muscle strength. But I have noticed the last few days here at the new house he has been slowly running around the yard with Ivan. So hopefully between some joint supplements and a bit of free running he can build up some muscle strength and cushion the joints a bit. Not to mention loose a bit of weight.
