For those of you in the UK (especially who have also lived in/visited the US)...

What country do you live in or have lived in, and what's it like owning a dog there? Anyone even remotely familiar with service dog laws (though I may or may not use one when I move there, depends on a lot of things...I will not be taking Logan when I visit)? Has anyone moved from the US to the UK with a dog?

It's a long ways away (5-10 years and yes, I know a lot can change in that time), but my younger brother and I are contemplating moving to the UK at some point, specifically either Wales or Scotland. I wouldn't be opposed to elsewhere, but those are the two that most appeal to me right now. We'll visit first to see if it's somewhere we'd like to be, of course. We're planning on visiting about a year after my brother's done with grad school, so about 4 years from now.

What are some good zoos in the UK that I should look into?

And of course, overall, what do you like/dislike about whatever country you live/have lived in?

I'm British and I moved to the US and have taken dogs both ways. I understand that it is much easier to take a dog back now and they just need a rabies vaccination 28 days or something before you fly.

Not sure on service dog laws ect.

I love the UK and will hopefully move back as soon as I get the chance. I will be going back for a month in 3 weeks.

If you don't mind me asking, what are some of the big differences between the UK and the US, and what do you like/dislike? Whether it's dog-related or not, I'm really really interested

I always have a hard time thinking of specifics. I think I mostly love it because it's my home.

I like the lack of leash laws which means my dogs can run in the forest and I like, at least in the places I have lived, the lack of loose dogs.
I like that lots of pubs and the like are as dog friendly as they can be.

I personally miss the food and it's nothing like people say it is or like what is served here as British food.

People are less in your face and tend to leave you alone a lot more to do your own thing.

I dislike that good dog foods are not as plentiful and dog products in general.

I dislike the cost of living and the pay.

I think there are some fantastic places in the UK to live. Beautiful places. Just be prepared to pay for it. It's certainly not a cheap place to live.

Wales is great, but depending where you choose to live, work opportunities are limited. Especially if you don't speak Welsh. I couldn't find work in wales, which is why I'm having to commute.

Some of the UK cities are amazing, culturally, but while our lead laws are more relaxed, there arent many places you can take a dog in the city, they're generally not dog friendly.

As for service dogs, its my understanding that there are only a few recognised tabards that dogs wear.

Scotland is beautiful, and much more remote than other countries. Wales is where I'm choosing to live, but honestly its swamped with tourists in the holidays which is irritating.

You want to look into the south west. That's always an area that's appealed to me - bristol, Cornwall, Devon etc.

I'm temporarily located in England, from Canada, for a university opportunity. I've visited England every summer because my family is here, and I can still say that living here has been a massive adjustment. It's been great, but I'm definitely ready to pack up and head home. The cost of living is really high and I'm definitely not in the most 'happening' part of the country. If I look out my window I see farmers' fields for miles and miles (and if I squint really hard I can see the M6 way off in the distance).

There are a lot of things I'll really miss though. Like the history and the food and the cities. I love London and Manchester. And I'll miss the bread here. The bread here is way better, and my English family in Canada constantly whinge about the bread at home. The British seaside towns are awesome too.
