I was told off for rescuing a Mexi-dog

Lyzelle's posts have truth to them, as the Memphis Animal Shelter itself has been accused of squirreling pit bulls out the door to use for some sort of nefarious purpose, such as fighting.

You rescued a dog. You saved a life. Don't let other people's warped ideas mess up what it is such an amazing thing!

My friend's friend works with a rescue that helps bring dogs from Greece to Canada and I think the US too. I was telling one woman about how my friend was pet sitting a Greece dog (a special needs dog too) because she also knows my friend and hadn't seen her for awhile. She immediately shut my story down, told me she was disappointed in my friend and that there are dogs in Canada that need homes. You just can't listen to those kinds of people. While I understand their point of view, I do not agree with it. A life is a life.

People are idiots. I heard someone ream out another person for doing charity work to help people in developing countries this morning and it made me irate. To me helping people or animals is a great thing no matter where they are from.

Oh for crying out loud. If you give a dog who needed a home, a home then... I fail to see how that is a bad thing. Good works shouldn't be graded on a curve.

I found this to be quite similar in Tampa...there is a definite, definite problem there. It is getting better, I think, as more people are aware of what they are doing when they drop off at animal services-but, most of those people just don't care. Up here, night and day difference. I've half heartedly been looking for another heeler/heeler mix...looking at rescue, and there isn't much at all. I'm beginning to be incredibly leery of some of these 'south to north' transport organizations. I've been doing research and things are not always what they seem.

I've been watching some of the NYC ACC postings on facebook. There is a definite pit bull problem...there is a 'senior' dog problem..there is an injured dog problem. There is not so much a 'normal mutt' problem. The rescues scoop up anything that can still walk and isn't a pit bull. Even cute pit bulls for the most part. There is a bit of a problem at the shelter, they euthanize dogs with kennel cough, which sucks and I don't agree. But from what I can see NYCACC posts ALL dogs going to be euthanized. This means dogs with bite history, dogs with DA, very ill dogs. And people jump on these threads and cry and say it's not fair...but they aren't THAT bad. I read all of the notes on the dogs that are euthanized, and it usually is for a legit reason, even if these people don't agree.

On another note, when I was in TX, the shelters don't even require you to speuter. Actually I think you have to put a small deposit down and if it's not done you don't get it back . From the city I lived in's website:

I know people who have been through that too. Someone rescued a dog from Bulgaria and got hell for it. I mentioned going for a galgo in Spain once and got grief!

I'd looked into adopting a galgo at one point. The org was much more flexible with families that had small children than any of the greyhound rescues were.

The one we wanted got adopted by another family. A few months later we got our borzoi puppy and moved 1200 miles away, and enrolled him in obedience class. Lo and behold, the exact same galgo we'd applied for was also enrolled in that class. *cue twilight zone music*
