My third National this year (went to Belgians and Cardis in April). The PyrShep National was held in conjunction with a big all breed show in my area, a show I always go to anyway so it is very convenient! I've actually been to several PyrShep Nationals but this is the first one I've been a PyrShep owner for :)

While I would have loved for Savvy to be ready for Rally or Agility, he wasn't so we did conformation. He went in twice - once for Puppy Sweepstakes and once for the regular 12-18 class. I did not have high expectations for him in conformation because he's big and half way between a smooth and a rough face but he won his Puppy sweeps class...and $11! The Sweeps judge was extremely amused by his antics because he kept obsessively trying to jump onto the table again and again... and succeeded on our way to get the ribbon. She called him "Mr Athletic" :)

We didn't do as well in the regular class. By that time it was in the 90s and Savvy was very hot, so he wasn't quite as funny as his first class. He still attempted multiple table launches though. By far, he thinks the whole point of going into the conformation ring is launching on and off of the table.

I also put Savvy in the TCQ, which is a PyrShep specific temperament evaluation based on the temperament test for the breed in France. This test is basically an anti-CGC test LOL. Dogs should be standoffish of strangers, can be barky for certain things, should be agitated at you leaving them and very joyful at your return. Savvy did excellent on the test and had the second highest score (19 out of 20, one dog had 20 out of 20). He only didn't get a perfect score because he was too friendly during the stranger portion. This is the test for anyone interested in seeing what is considered ideal for the breed: http://www.pyrshepclub.com/documents/tdcomportment.pdf

Some photos...more to come I'm sure:

This guy is a relative of Savvy's and I think you can really tell! He is more than a half sibling of Savvy's mom:

This guy is a son of one of my fave PyrSheps, he's the dog who received a perfect score on the TCQ and also got his RN this weekend. And he's only been with his new owner since Feb or March!

Great pictures, the dogs are so interesting! I found the temperament test info intriguing, I've never heard of such a thing before. Really neat!

I so loved being around so many Muppet Dogs! Belgians will always be "my breed" but I'm pretty smitten with these guys.

The temperament test is based on the test for the breed in France. It is not uncommon to have such evaluations of character for different breeds in Europe. Watching it was interesting and helps to give a good understanding of proper temperament in the breed.

I love the variety in them as well and hope that it is maintained into the future.

The temperament test is so interesting!

They really are appealing dogs. I've enjoyed the videos you've posted of him. :]
Thanks! Savvy is a lot of fun. I'm working on a big video of him showing his training from puppyhood through now but haven't had time to finish it (with all these Nationals amd all LOL). PyrSheps and Belgians of all varieties seem to be a common pairing. Several of the people at the National this year also have Belgians, some had their Belgians with them :)

Love all the pictures! And that breed test is pretty cool.

This guy is a relative of Savvy's and I think you can really tell! He is more than a half sibling of Savvy's mom:
The dog world cracks me up. His mother's father's half-brother's sister's aunt is DEFINITELY in his family tree. Lol. I don't know how you guys keep track of that stuff. I would get very very confused.

Savvy!!! Is he going to stay half-way between a rough and smooth face? I think that's called the Muppet Face Variety in France. :D

I love that test (the anti-CGC, LOL) and I wish Cardis had something like that... Way cool.

Wow... there is SO MUCH variety in Pyrsheps! All of them are adorable, but I think Savvy is the cutest. :)

I love the breed temperament test. I wish more breed clubs would organize something like that, and understand that not all breeds should have the temperament of a Golden.

Glad you had fun!

Are a lot of them docked/cropped? It seems like a lot of the ones in the pictures are, but with some of a really heavily coated dogs it's almost hard to tell. Not many smooths either it seems?

I think he's pretty cute too but I might be biased ;)

Jealous!! Looks like so much fun!! Congrats on Savvy winning his class. :D
Thanks! I really wasn't expecting it :) I'm glad the PyrShep National is so close, so often :)

I think he will stay a Muppet Face :) His coat is so interesting, it's always changing but I don't think he'll ever be as hairy as the RFs. He might get as much hair as Grandma Widget though? http://www.madcap.name/Widget.html

When I read over the TCQ test, I thought "Savvy will pass this with flying colors!"

A lot are docked, some are natural bobtails. I'd say all natural dogs are the minority but there were others there. Some are docked. I think some people who want to show panic when their puppies ears get wonky and crop them. I talked to several people who said they'd planned to leave them natural but the ears started looking weird. Savvy's ears have gone through all sorts of phases and mostly have settled to a rose ear. A few people with natural eared dogs said they glued their dog's ears as puppies.

Historically, SF dogs just occasionally popped up in litters and there has never been a huge number of them. There are probably more now than ever because there are people breeding for SF but that variety is still only, I think about 10% pf the breed. There were some very nice SF dogs there though. The sire and dam of the brindle boy I posted the head shot of both are SF and both are in the final line up for BOB for a Select/AOM. He and his dam are both natural bobtails with natural ears.

And now, Savvy stacked. Kinda. This took a really long time to get because Savvy does not stop moving very long at all...
