I found out last night that my mom's neighbor is a sex offender. And I'm not talking neighbor as in a couple miles down the road, I'm talking close enough to have a convo while on your front porches without screaming through microphone. That close.

He was convicted in Florida but now lives here in Georgia.

His conviction? Lewd Lavaticious (?) Acts with a child under 16.
My mom has custody of my 5 year old niece and my 4 year old nephew.

Needless to say, my mom and stepdad are not thrilled about this. At. All.
And neither am I.

I know everyone has different views on sex offenders, but I think my mom should of at least been notified that he was a S.O.
And he has 3 kids under the age of 16.

Would you be worried if he, or any other sex offender, was living that close to your house?

i would be worried , but kept an open mind , that charge could be as simple as a 18/19 yr old getting a consenual BJ from a 16 yr old.

I would just feel out the situation and be vigilant.

The guy is in his late 40s. I think that rules out the 18/19 year old thing.

how do you know for sure how old he is?

The only reason i ask is because i was recently fooled when the swamp man died , i swore he was in his 70's and was only 48.

How do you know he is an offender if she wasn't notified? Did he just move in our was in the hood before ya mom moved there?

Seriously be vigilant and watchful but dont worry to much because kids those ages should not be unsupervised anywhere anyway , so should not be an issue .

Do you know for sure when he was convicted? Its hard to say. In general yes, I would be worried but unfortunately the system does not really separate child molesters from statuatory rape (which can be an issue of course, but not always)

Most states have websites you can look it up on. I did when we first moved here and I was walking Sally at odd hours.

I would be vigelant, but not nuts about it. Consider yourself informed, and just keep an eye on the situation.

how do you know for sure how old he is? because I spoke to him & his wife a few weeks ago and his wife said he was 49. I don't think she'd be lying about that.

How do you know he is an offender if she wasn't notified? Did he just move in our was in the hood before ya mom moved there? Iin FL and GA he is considered a sex offender. And my mom has been living in this neighbor for almost 10 years. He just moved in here not even 6 months ago.

Seriously be vigilant and watchful but dont worry to much because kids those ages should not be unsupervised anywhere anyway , so should not be an issue . It shouldn't be an issue? Seriously? He sexually abused a girl under 16. There is a 5 and 4 year old living in THIS house. So excuse me for being blunt, but I will be making this an issue.
My answers are in red.

Yes he was convicted.
And I know the system can be shot to hell sometimes, but this is not something I take lightly.

A convicted sex offender lives next door. That's a pretty big **** deal to me.

Sadly no where is truly safe, whether the sex offender down the street has been convicted and now in a database or not yet caught but still your neighbor.

Be safe, maybe see what type of research you can do.

I'm not sure what else you can do without knowing your laws locally.

You could try by contacting your local representative.

This is true.
My mom has been trying to figure out who to contact so I will tell her about the local representative. Thank you.

please dont take this the wrong way dak , but nothing can happen unless those children are unsupervised.

I know it is creepy to have a perv living next door , but where else are they supposed to live , a state unto themselves? what are they supposed to do? i dont want an offender living next to me either , but the only thing you can do is watch the kids.

i mean 4 and 5 should not be unsupervised.

These kids have never been unsupervised but d@mn well won't be now.
And no I don't think that he, or any other sex offenders, should be living in a state upon themselves, I think they should be locked up.

But I have a different opinion about sex offenders, rapists, child murders, etc etc than most. And I think they should all be locked up, or at the VERY least officers should notify the neighbors in which said sex offenders or the like are staying.

Just to be clear, I asked WHEN, not if. My point was there is a slight chance he was convicted or the charges were brought up when he was much younger as you stay a sex offender for life. I am NOT saying to take it lightly, I am saying there is only so much you can do AND if it was something like being convicted at 18-22ish for it (and the girl was 16) that could be a big difference to me,

He was convicted back in 2002. So he is 49 now, that would of made him 38-39 when he was convicted? Still creepy and gross. And should be locked up, IMO.

Did you look up the definition of what he was convicted of Dakotah? It has a VERY wide coverage. It is entirely possible one of his kids found a copy of daddy's porn and showed an bitter ex wife. People have been accused of the same crime when holding a child in their lap. Although it is not impossible that he committed a crime on the very serious end of the spectrum, there is every possibility that he pissed on a bush and a group of kids walked by.

We had a guy charged with acts with girls under 13 living next door. Fortunately he was terrified of Harry. He moved out, but has been hanging out at the house behind us. Gross.

Constant vigilance. And a new Malinois.

I don't know if it's different in different areas but I know the PD has come on radio stations and new stations around here and said to be sure to research any SO that may live near you. They said around here if someone gets drunk and pees in public they aren't taken in and charged as a SO. They get public intox. The PD around here basically said if the SO says it was for peeing in public and they said it is in NE OK you need to check because they never charge public urination as a sex crime and most likely it's something a lot more than just needing a place to pee.

That being said keep an eye on the kids and try and find out what he was charged for before freaking out about it.

Yes I looked it up. And no I don't think it was just he pissed on a bush and some kid walked by and went "eww". I stand by what I said. Yall can take it however you want.

Well mom has a black lab but Midnight would not be much help since she is terrified of men, especially tall men.
