Starting tonight directly after work, wish me luck!

All the best intentions in the world could not get me up early enough this morning to get at it... Just need to accept I am no morning person... LOL

I am insanely out of shape! I had to talk myself into not quitting half way through!!

Good for you for getting out there! Do keep in mind that if you're really struggling at a given step it's totally ok to stay at that step until you're more comfortable!

You definitely won't be! For right now, don't worry too much and don't be too hard on yourself. If you really need to walk a run interval, take it as an extra long walk interval. But always remember that you never get anywhere if you don't push yourself! When you feel like you can make that push... go for it! And amazing things will happen.





You can do it. I know you can.

Thanks Beanie I made it through running all the intervals I was supposed to but I admit the last run segment I was going pretty slow! I love the Get Running app! The "coach" telling you when to run/walk is cool..

I need to get an armband for my iPhone to make it better and figure out how to use my music at the same time

Don't worry about speed. Speed doesn't matter if you can't finish the intervals. Just pace yourself so you can develop endurance, then work on speed as you get towards the end of the program, or when running past the end.

I started off running like an old granny (seriously, I've been passed by speed walkers), but have noticed I'm gradually increasing speed as I go. I'm up to Week 7 now (completed W6D3 yesterday) and ran a 10:30 mile. Not all that impressive I'm sure (I actually have no idea how fast one is supposed to run a mile..) but it's infinitely better than I could've done 5 weeks ago when I just started!

My legs hurt today...

No pain no gain? LOL

And GO pretty sure I would have been passed by them as well... I am going to just be patient (not a strong trait of mine either!) and follow the program..

Way to go! I can't even make myself start, so you're way ahead of me. I always have an excuse to not run. Keep on working hard! It really does pay off in the long run.

I think I will get started on that again! When we get back from our cruise. If I remember correctly, day one was awful and miserable. Day two was even worse, then day three was pretty good and each day after a tiny bit better. That cycle repeated itself each time I moved up to the next "week". I was stuck on one for 3 weeks, 2 for 2 weeks, and I only made it to three before I gradually quit. I think I will be able to breeze through week one this time since we run so darn much in boot camp. We shall see...

Did the second day today, it was hot and humid and I am ashamed to admit I could not do the last 2 run segments, I had to power walk them :-(

I am not giving up though, but I figure I'll repeat week one at least once...

Finished W6D2 today... it was hot-ish and humid-ish, but not as bad as it could have been. Got to watch the storm roll in while I ran, which was pretty neat. (I know it's cliche and hokey, but running regularly lets you see things you usually don't see... like 20 minutes of thunderstorms in the distance, lighting up the clouds with lightning and slowwwwly coming towards you.)

I feel okay, save for my bad knee and my lower back for some reason. WHY is my lower back hurting? Is it because I live in VFFs but run in Nikes? (I really want to blame the Nikes.)

Could be tight hip flexors - the hip flexors attach all the way through to the back and can pull your lower back out if they are too tight.

It's the Psoas Major that can affect the back as you can see in the picture there. I would add the butterfly sit in as a stretch to do as well as the ones shown there.

It could be the difference between your VFFs and the Nikes - or just that the Nikes are the wrong running shoe for you. You probably have a really good running store nearby, I would hit them up and see if they can help you try and pinpoint your running style more and see what you might need instead!


By the way, for those of you running with music, I love theeeeeese. http://www.yurbuds.com/ I found them at a running store when I was near St. Louis and I am just in love with them!

Ok... My alarm is set and I'm starting again tomorrow. The most unfit I have been forever!!!!! So slightly worried :D

My only question is. As someone with hyper extending joints, knees that click and ache if I'm sat in one position for a period of time, how can I protect them?? I have running shoes (nikes), but would it be worth investing in some kind of knee supports?
