Gracie - the Dachshund we now have - is having an allergic reaction to something. I'm assuming it is seasonal allergies...I remember her owner saying something to that regard, and the vet had given him some lotion (or spray) to put on her. It is only on her belly (where she is touching the grass). She's broken out into bumps (looks like hives) and she keeps licking at them (and making it irritated).

We're going to give her benedryl to see if that helps, and I'm taking them in for baths on Saturday and I'll give her a medicated bath, but is there a specific med I should ask the vet for? Do you think the Cortisoothe lotion stuff would work?

Anybody else with a long little doggy whose belly drags on the grass get irritation from it?

Found her pills today - vet has prescribed her Hydroxizine. Will that do the trick, or would Benedryl be a better bet?

Quick question: Would her wearing a t-shirt when she goes outside help anything? They played around in a "field" (long grass) yesterday night as they had been cooped up all day due to us being at the hospital, and she broke out BAD. Her armpits were raw and she was miserable. Better today (thanks to the drugs, I'm assuming), but it was not good.

Took her in to the vet today and they gave her a shot to help bring down the inflammation. It was BAD. The shot has made it look so much better now. She's going to be on another oral medication for a bit, and then we're going to see how she's doing. We're also going to try some cortisone cream to see if that helps.

Watch for side effects with the cortisone.

The t-shirt should help, too, and there is a topical benadryl spray that's effective.
What spray is that? I don't want to use the cortisone cream unless I have to - I think the benadryl spray would be better.

I did get a picture of her belly to show what the allergies are doing to her, poor girl. =[ Most of the marks are healing now and are from last week when she was *really* bad and I took her to the vet, but you can see some new bumps starting to come in. She's on hydroxizine twice a day and she has another medication that we're to give her if it gets really bad again, but other than that I don't really know what to do with her.
