Another product by Diamond is now being recalled; this is beyond ridiculous at this point.

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Issues Voluntary Recall
Recall is limited to one formula of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul distributed to 10 states

Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Adult Light Formula dry dog food is manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods and was distributed in Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia, who may have further distributed the product to other states, through pet food channels. The company is working directly with distributors and retailers who carry these products to remove them from the supply chain

Exactly. And it's salmonella, which does not worry me in the least. It's more of a problem for the people feeding it, not the dogs eating it. Wash your hands after feeding like everything tells you to anyway and you're good to go!

I don't think it is always Diamond. Flipping through the first page of DogFoodProject's news archives (back through 2009) certainly doesn't show that it's always Diamond... the recent stuff is all I see jumping right off the page. I see another Diamond related article back in 2007 paging back.

This one is likely related to the last one... they shut down the plant so they could make sure nothing else was affected, apparently they found another. I'm not super surprised, cross contamination of ingredients DOES happen in commercial food production. There's a reason there are labels on foods that say things like "this product manufactured in a plan that processes peanuts" and other allergens... even if there's no peanut IN that product, it can still become contaminated with peanuts and cause an allergic reaction in someone. A recall of one product doesn't always mean a recall of multiple products, but it's not hugely alarming to see them expand it. I don't think two products is beyond ridiculous.

But then again my dad worked in a commercial food plant for almost 40 years, so maybe my perspective on commercial food production/processing is just different...

That's so sad, I hope they fix the issues soon it would be better if they charge a bit more for the food but have better QC.

Somebody else brought This up someplace else. Other than agree with Beanie that it really isn't always Diamond, you have to realize that Diamond is HUGE and deals with a ton of foods, so ya, more foods does mean more chances for recalls.

To expect no problems with ANY plant just isn't realistic, and you have to wonder, all of those that have hardly any recalls, is it really because there's been no problem? Or is it because they just don't have the same standards of testing?

ETA: another thing that was brought up, was look at a company for human products... Like Dole. They have tons of recalls, yet you don't see everybody stopping buying Dole products.
