One of you great Independent Pet Store People out there sent me a 'heads up' that their Distributor would not be delivering any products made by Diamond Pet Food; though she received no explanation why. I called Diamond and was told...

Paraphrasing 'In light of the recent Diamond Pet Food Recall, out of precaution Diamond is suspending delivery of all products made at the Diamond South Carolina facility until more information is available.' Told to me by Julie, Diamond Pet Food Representative.

Julie did not have a list of Diamond manufactured foods made at the South Carolina Plant. She suggested if a pet owner has a question if the food was made at the South Carolina Diamond Pet Food plant, please contact the respective company.

Foods made by Diamond Pet Food (though not confirmed to be made at the South Carolina Plant)
Solid Gold
Canidae/Felidae
Natural Balance
Kirkland (Costco Brand)
Chicken Soup
Taste of the Wild
4-Health (Tractor Supply Brand)

This is NOT a recall. No other information was provided. Julie was very open and did not hesitate to share this with me. I thank Diamond Pet Food for the openness.

Thanks to Kristin for the information leading to this news from Diamond!

Wishing you and your pet(s) the best,

I wonder if our Taste of the Wild comes from that plant. My poor parents are going to go to the pet store for food and not be able to find it *sigh*. I suppose I'd rather them stop supplying it then allow possibly dangerous food to be sold though. Maybe I need to find him a different food, I wonder who makes Earthborn.

No, they'll be able to find it. This is not a recall - this just means anything made in the SC plant is being held for now. TOTW is manufactured in all three Diamond plants and just the SC plant is shut down. That means the two other Diamond plants will continue to produce and ship.

Yup, some of the TOTW formulas are made in the SC plant, but I am sure they will still be able to get it, as the other two plants are still open. TOTW is an actual Diamond food, too (unlike Solid Gold, for example, who just uses their plant). But still.

I don't trust Diamond - I've had an uneasy feeling about them for about a year. Too many QC issues, and I simply don't find them trustworthy. It's just a feeling, mostly, but also after some things I've read.

Earthborn is made by Midwestern Pet Foods (who also makes Pro-plan and Sportmix). I haven't ever heard anything bad about Midwestern personally.

I realize EVERY company is going to have their issues, but I do feel like Diamond's had a lot, and I don't like the way they handled anything during the 2007 recall.

Just one more reason I want to switch Bamm off of Kirkland. Cricket has been doing well on Fromm and I want to switch Bamm to Fromm as well.

I'm getting sick of Diamond. TOTW is such an easy food to recommend to people whose dogs should be on a grain free diet, since we don't have a shocking price point to talk through... but I'm not liking the association with Diamond.

Lucy is on Kirkland but thinking she should be switched.
