UGH I"m so frustrated with the people that are slowly encroaching on this neighborhood.

People who have lots of kids but can't be bothered to supervise them.

A gaggle of kids out there running around, many of them 5 and under (I'm guessing) and NO ONE is watching them.

I just found them in my yard looking for worms :yikes:

The dogs weren't out... I brought them in because the little buggers were pestering them and while the dogs love the attention I'm not going to encourage it.

When I saw that they were in the yard I went out and asked them what they were doing in my yard and then I told them that they were never EVER to come into my yard or anyone else's without permission from the yard owner.

the one kid ended stuck in my yard because he couldn't climb back over our 5 ft privacy fence. I asked him "Now what if I wasn't home, you would be stuck in my yard. what if you were hurt? who would help you? DON'T go into peoples yards" and then I let him out of the gate and sent him on his way

But seriously... no parent in sight. What is wrong with people?

And what proof have you that she's not? :p

Hopefully I've taught my kids to ask permission........Lord knows frisbees, balls, airplanes, etc have went into various neighbor's yards over the years. One time my son's helicopter even crash landed on someone's roof! LOL

At first I thought, 'eh, they wandered over the boundary that separates your yard from your neighbors. Not THAT big of a deal. Maybe they didn't realize they were in your yard." but you mean like, IN your FENCED yard? That's crazy! Our neighbors have lots of kids and they wander into our yard. It's annoying but not a huge deal. We both have small yards side by side and no fence. That's understandable. Not climbing a privacy fence.

While I agree that climbing over a fence to enter the yard is worse than just walking through an unfenced yard, neither should be done. In this day of sue happy people, any injury on your property becomes the potential for a costly law suit...........invited or uninvited, makes no difference in the long run. (which I think is BS)

Of course kids aren't thinking that while they are out playing though, which is why parents should make them understand personal property. If the kid is old enough to be outside playing around the neighborhood unsupervised, then they should be old enough to understand trespassing IMO.

You know, I liked my old neighborhood because the kids were allowed out to play without adults hovering . . . but I don't think any of them were THAT little. At least not without a significantly older sibling along.

And they always knocked on our door to get their ball back . . . of course, six foot locked fences and barking dogs do that . . . .

I'm all for free-ranging kids . . . but under five?

yeah our front yard is open and sometimes when the kids are running around playing they end up on our side and that doesn't bother me too much... it happens, the front yards are small and there is nothing separating them. although one time we did find them up by our basement window with chairs just sitting up on our yard and the next morning we found a beer can where they had been sitting :yikes: I REALLY hope the kids didn't have that (we are talking 8 years old and under). When they saw us look out our window they grabbed their chairs and ran.

but yeah this was climbing over a 5 ft privacy fence  I went out and said "What are you DOING in my yard" and their answer was "collecting worms" and they acted like they were supposed to be in my yard. Like they had no idea that was NOT cool. So obviously not only do their parents not watch them but they also don't teach them that you don't go into peoples yards

That's another worry. if they get hurt in our yard... it doesnt' matter if they climbed the fence and came in without my permission and God forbid the dogs accidently hurt them then not only could they sue us but they could take the dogs

it's a sad state of affairs when that's what you think about when kids come into your yard uninvited.

I can't say I really blame the kids... it appears they have no idea that that's not an acceptable thing to do.

the parents just don't care. AND the mother of the one set of kids is heavily pregnant ... oh goody... another one. and they leave their dogs out on their second level porch and I'm always afraid the dogs are going to try to jump off.

Thank god somebody else said it.

It makes me sad to think this is what it is coming to. The whole POINT of living in a neighborhood is to work as a team and let your kids play together without parents being up their ass

no... privacy fences and barking dogs don't keep them out lol. I have both and still kids keep turning up in my yard. this isn't the first time but before that it was a different set of kids. The first time it was one of the girls next door (4 at the time of the incident, she's 5 and in kindergarten full time now). Belle was in the yard and next thing I know Belle was at the door WITH a kid!

yes I have no problem with reasonably aged kids being out on their own but these kids were definitely 5 or under and I know the one little girl next door is only 3 and she's always out there by herself with NO ONE, not even a sibling.

Parents don't have to be up their kids Ass but they should be reasonably supervised ... especially when they are 5 years old and under.

hannah plays with the little girls next door (even though the Aunt tells them to get away from hannah any time she sees them playing together, I actually don't even know who the girls mother actually is)

But when they are climbing privacy fences into peoples backyards... backyards that have DOGS and one of the kids gets STUCK in the yard because they can't climb back out and there is no one around to notice... there is a problem there.

What if I wasn't home to help him get out? how long would he have been stuck in my yard and how would he have gotten out? What if on his way over the fence he fell and smashed his head on the big rock they jumped down onto? Mom wouldn't have noticed and I would have been the one to pay the price for the child injured on my property even though they climbed over my privacy fence into my yard without my knowledge or permission.

the girls next door understand now. I told them that if they ever need anything from my yard, just come knock on my door and I will gladly help them out but they can't just climb my fence and come in because they could really get hurt and it's not safe with dogs in the yard.

Plus, like Fran said... I could be a serial killer lol

I just LOLed at the thought of belle at the door with a kid. "hey food lady, look what I found! Can I keep it? It followed me home"
lol really that's pretty much what it was like lol. Belle brought her up to the door... or she just followed the girl up here, I don't know which lol.

Belle would gladly keep any kids that wander into our backyard.

but I told the girl that it's not safe to go into peoples yards like that ESPECIALLY if there is a dog in the yard. luckily my dogs like kids and not in the mmm tasty kind of way lol

We found a FAMILY in our backyard once, playing baseball. We couldn't figure out WTF gave them the right to trespass and play baseball IN OUR BACKYARD.

When I was a kid I was allowed to roam the neighborhood and play with the neighbor kids, but we never played in yards that didn't belong to us. We also didn't play in the street (and I know there are people here that think playing in the street is 100% fine) and we didn't block foot or car traffic. We were polite kids.

:yikes: that's just odd lol

yeah these kids don't even actually live on our street, I don't know their parents. the back of their house faces onto the back of our house... sort of on diagonal. Mom would be able to see them from her back door easily so she could just look out on them... but she doesn't. same with their dogs. one day I expect to hear a big yelp when one of them decides to jump off of that 2nd story balcony :( they are out on that porch for hours and no one comes and checks on them at all. they just sit there and cry and yelp for someone.

A strand of barbed or electric wire along top your fence outta fix that.

:rofl1:
LOL that's what Brian said too :rofl1:

you know what scares me though....

the neighbors next door have one of those little blow up pools... those ones that are like 3 ft deep. they don't have it fenced in, nor is their yard (which I think is illegal but not sure... I don't think you can have an unsecured pool area). I saw those kids over there first jumping on their trampoline while they weren't home. when that pool is filled up are they going to be jumping into that pool with no one watching them?

This is how young they are... our fence is a 5 ft privacy fence, in the back corner we have a large rock that is about two feet high. Kid taht got stuck was on top of that rock trying to jump up and grab the fence and couldn't get over.

just to give you an idea .. these are not appropriately aged kids to be running around without someone at least checking on them

Maybe you should call the police or child protective services and let them figure out who these kids belong to and let them see if they can wake up these idiotic parents. I'd be livid! Not at the kids so much, but at the parents.

So far, what I see in my new neighborhood are very well brought up kids and evolved parents. My next door neighbors kids by accident kicked their soccer ball over the fence. I tossed it back over. They were outside and said, "thank you Carrie." They're very young. Then one more time and I was inside. They came to the front door and told me that they again lost their ball over the fence. I was thinking.....this could potentially get annoying. It wasn't yet, but what if I were taking a nap or something? LOL. So, they politely asked me to throw the ball back and thanked me. When I went to the back again, their Mom, across the fence apologized profusely and thanked me. After a bit, I noticed her in the front yard playing with the kids. No fence in the front yard. LOL.

The next day I found a frizbee in my yard, threw it back over the fence for the little boys. Then my neighbor on the other side said, "hi, did you see a frizbee over there? We threw it over yesterday." I laughed so hard and told him what I did. He said, "no problem. I'll donate it to the kids.":rofl1:

Luckily, no one has climbed our 6ft tall privacy fence yet- I'd be SO mad if someone did that! A couple of little boys were in our side yard one time taunting the dogs, and I politely explained to them that they aren't allowed to do that. I haven't had any issues since then (knock on wood, of course).

For the most part, the kids and parents in my neighborhood are seemingly polite. I'd be irritated if kids ended up in my yard for sure. Kids that young need supervision. I couldn't imagine letting my 4 or 5 year old run loose in my neighborhood!

I go back and forth....I know at 7 and 8 we were climbing neighbors fences playing FBI and unicorns etc. I know at 5-6 we were allowed out with parents just randomly checking. I do think it has gone too far to kids having no freedom but he line can be hard to draw. I struggle with it a lot myself.
