it's that mannaquins aren't just laying around out in fields and rivers and ditches. Like, ever.

I'm always amazed at how many people think they're seeing a mannequin if they find a body. I am now convinced if I ever find a mannequin anywhere it shouldn't be, I'll call the police before even checking to see if it's a dead body.

I have become aware of the same thing. Nearly every show "Thinking it was a mannequin.." I have a lot of mannequin heads from doing hair, and every so often I think about leaving one in someones yard..

I just imagine these people must live in a place where department stores regularly chuck out the mannequins. Just "off with you then" and that's it. So that explains everything, until you poke it.

Just....seriously?
I mean even in the Black Dahlia case the people were saying they thought it was a mannequin. REALLY? IN HALF? Why is that your first thought?

Maybe we're desensitized.

That's my first though when I think I see something floating around
"It's a mannequin.. it's a doll..."

lol human nature. I don't WANT it to be a dead body.

So I use my best coping mechanism.. ignore the problem til it goes away lol

I agree I think it's more that people don't want it to be a dead body than anything.

I don't wear glasses and if I saw a human figure cut in half from a ways off I'd probably think it was a mannequin just because it was in multiple pieces.

 Exactly how many times has this happened to you???
:rofl1: I live in Miami, we go on boats A LOT
and there is a pretty common hispanic santaria practicing church by the docks where lots of RANDOM items get thrown into the water
very very commonly, that includes baby dolls and the like.

So even though we know, chances are, it's a doll. If even one person says something like ".. guys.. it really looks.. but maybe.."

there is a pretty loud agreement of "IT'S A DOLL! STOP LOOKING AT IT! IT'S A DOLL!" lol

:rofl1: I have to admit, I'd maybe think it was a mannequin. I work in a museum and we have toooons of mannequins for displaying old army uniforms and stuff. So there are always mannequins, some of which are partly taken apart, stored wherever they'll fit...closets, the mezzanine above the exhibit hall, randomly shoved in people's cubicles if they're working on one...

Hell, crime shows have taught me that everybody is out to kill me. :p

Somebody came up to cash out tonight, and she goes "are you waiting for a ride?" and I was like "no..." and she's like "oh, cause there's a car just idling on the other side of the street". This street is a dead end straight, ends right behind my work. There is no reason for anybody to be there, unless they are picking somebody up. THEY WERE OUT TO KILL ME.
