I'm stuck on highway in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma because MY FREAKING WHEEL FELL OFF!!!!!!

Tow truck will be here in 1.5 to 2 hours. Hoping they can get it fixed today. If not, does anyone happen to know if UKC does entry fee refunds and if so what their policy is?

Vibes that it's affordable to fix?

Thanks for checking and for vibes!

At least it was only $54 in entry fees, so not too bad.

Hopefully it's something simple like someone didn't tighten a bolt correctly!

Scary! I just glad it didn't happen at night and you're okay! I hope it's an easy quick fix.

The wheel fell off the car? Like because the lug nuts were gone? Or the axle came apart?

Vibes for getting picked up soon and safely!

Sheared the heads off the lug nuts, looks like. Truck came an hour early so we're in the shop now along with the most awesome tripod bc/cattle dog :)

New studs are like 2 bucks each. Lug nuts maybe a few bucks more per. Then the labor to pull them in (about 10 minutes with an impact gun). Should be well under 100 bucks to repair.

It would be nice to find out WHY they sheared off, though. Do you have some other suspension issue that caused so much vibration that the lugs sheared off?

Ended up being $135, and a free tow from my insurance roadside assistance. The towtruck driver also got a nice tip for drving 60 miles to come rescue me :rofl1: I'm AMAZED that the rotor was fine. It sort of made a deep mark in the highway for a couple hundred feet. But everything underneath was fine, since the Caliber has some hefty air dams underneath and a lip under the fender. The lip got a bit worn away and my door makes a funny noise when I open it now, but I'm pretty thrilled with the result overall lol.

I do need to get my CV joint replaced, but it's really not THAT bad that it's causing much vibration. The noise that I thought was my CV joint getting worse was apparently the sound of the wheel working its way off.

Last time that wheel was off the car was when my alternator got replaced, and that was at least 6 months ago. It can't really be from that, they should have come off a long time ago in that case. I did check them after they were done, too, and they seemed just fine. So I still have no idea how it actually happened.

Uh.. Phone pix of the tripod?!
Sorry, I was busy juggling two dogs. Logan was fine, but Gavroche was a bit of an ass  I'm actually VERY impressed by Logan today. He's definitely proven himself. He was all "Wow, you plan weird trips, but okay, whatever you want" and Gavroche was all pissy and grumpy about everything lol

ETA: My roadside assistance has now paid for itself 125 times :rofl1:
