I posted my first Reddit comment a couple hours ago, and it was a disaster.

I am now convinced there must be some special Reddit etiquette or trick that I unintentionally violated, because

1) my comment was doing quite well in the first 15 minutes or so

2) I really don't think I was THAT obnoxious or anything.

3) and ... I am right lol

And yet they boo-hissed it into oblivion about an hour ago.

I know there are some reddit-fans on here and I implore you to tell me what sorts of things **** redditors off enough that they downvote a comment into collapse?

(I'm pretty sure I've seen reddit threads before, but if we're not supposed to talk about other internet discussion places on Chaz, my apologies and please just delete this!)

Mind sharing the comment? I'm rather curious now.

Reddit definitely has its... loves and hates.
You think I've said something interesting or provocative right? But no, sorry to disappoint but my comment was neither! Which makes me think it must be interpreted as excessively rude, but I don't think it is.

Good luck finding my comment it's a freaking slit in the page...

Reddit is picky. It usually comes down to the time you post and where on the page your post ends up.

Sadly being down voted into oblivion is pretty common. Reddiquet says you shouldn't down vote a comment because you disagree, but because it doesn't add to the conversation. That rarely happens. Just keep going, and don't let the blue arrows get you down.

I was going to say if you find a good subreddit it's not as bad but the bigger more popular ones are full of ignorant people.

uhhhh....what is Reddit? I've never heard of it.
www.reddit.com

its a social news site. Its gotten a lot bigger in the few years I have been there. There is a subreddit for everything, and I mean everything. Posts and comments are up or down voted, you gain or lose karma with up/down voting.

Personally I love reddit, most of my online time is spent there :) (if we forget researching for school.. but even the bio, chem, etc subreddits can be very helpful for that too)

Alright, thanks guys.

I'd love to know exactly why everyone attacked it. It's funny because there are many comments pointing out that that serval is fat (which are not collapsed) but mine is the only one with a photo that quite clearly shows it. I'm actually more upset that people apparently don't see the weight problem, than that I was rejected lol.

Ah well. lol It's good to know that I can expect more of this in the future.

And Mia, Reddit is a discussion forum for just about everything, and you can upvote or downvote comments. Comments that receive too many downvotes "collapse" so you have to click to see them. So if you say something unpopular, watch out lol.

PS I have a child!! lol

Yeah, Reddit is weird. Especially because there are other posts in that thread saying essentially the same thing and were upvoted high enough to make a difference.

I've been downvoted to oblivion a few times over pithy things, LOL. My strong opinions usually get upvoted, which is weird.
