to buy pharmaceutical drugs from someone because you cannot afford to see a doctor to get them on your own, and have regularly taken them in the past for a diagnosed problem?

Non-poll answer, would you ever resort to doing it if you had no other avenue?

Juuust curious.

Hypothetically I have kinda, but I literally had the prescription for it from the doctor, I just couldn't afford $30 for one pill

ETA but no, I wouldn't do it without seeing a doctor first, cause that is incredibly dangerous at different stages of life, and I don't even feel comfortable doing that despite having schooling in nursing

Honestly, I would totally do it. I think it's wrong if you don't need them, but if you have previously taken them before for a diagnosed problem, I don't really see anything wrong with it.

ETA: that always happens with my feet.

Minus birth control, we're as natural as we can get here. There's not a whole lot I can't fix with herbs.

Morally wrong? Yes, I think so, but that's my opinion.

It's the worst isn't it? Bottom of the foot itches are the devil.

And potentially dangerous.
This.

I wouldn't trust any drugs not obtained directly from the pharmacy myself. If it's something you had a prescription for and just need a refill and they can't get a hold of the doctor I think most pharmacies will give you a few days worth of pills (maybe depending on the prescription, my pharmacy gave me a couple of days worth of blood pressure meds when they couldn't get a hold of my doctor over the weekend once).

I've been having serious back pain that only seems to be dampened with Vicodin. I'm down to my last two pills (they were prescribed for the csection), and I'm trying to get a refill from the doctor. My csection incision is fine now, but the back is still agony (I've even started seeing a chiropractor) but if she refuses I still wouldn't get the pills illegally. I'd pretty much just suffer through it and hope the chiro manages to fix it.

Hm, okay. What if you're not just buying from some street kid? And instead, buying from someone you know who has the prescription themselves and is willing to help you out, pills in original pop-out packaging?

Any sort of doctor or talking to a pharmacy about refilling isn't an option, unfortunately.

I talked to my parents about this too. The opinions are purely something I just find interesting. I enjoy seeing what people think is and isn't okay, when someone is in need. Where do you draw the line on health care and affordability, things like that. Especially when you know that you're not dealing with some back-alley scummy dealer.

My parents both concluded, it depends on the problem; it would differ for them both on whether it was psychological, physical, pain, anxiety, etc. This is my view as well, though I still don't see any of it as morally wrong, or exceedingly dangerous if you're aware of where you're getting from and all side effects (which you should be aware of any drug effects or warnings if you've been prescribed to it before).

I chose that it is not morally wrong, however I agree that its dangerous, and I especially wouldn't buy drugs from a random person off the street.

ETA: Although I do agree with this point:

I'm too introverted, personally, to even say hello to most people on the street.

Haha I get anxious when a cashier talks to me, even!

Not morally wrong in my opinion. But yes, possibly dangerous, very dangerous.

The fact that it's not being bought from a doctor as a sample or through a pharmacy would make me nervous. And a Doctor and/or pharmacist not being privy to what you are taking and at what doses makes me twitchy.

But, this also depends on the drug to me. Like, if we are talking prescription strength Ibuprofen I wouldn't be as worried since more than likely you have taken some form before, would know if you had stomach issues and in all honesty could be taking just as high of dose through OTC Ibuprofen.

But something like say, Coumadin I would be really nervous for anyone to take without it being controlled through the doctor or pharmacist because the wrong dose (and that being checked) can be deadly.

So no, I wouldn't call it morally wrong but you could certainly be taking risks I wouldn't recommend or be comfortable with

I'm with Linds. It kind of depends on the drug and the knowledge one has about drugs and their own experience with a particular drug in the past. One must know something about drug interactions if one decides to take a drug and has begun something new in the recent past. If it's an anti-biotic, unless it's the whole series, it's very dangerous because the bacteria can become resistant to the drug and less than the whole series may not knock out the bug. Plus, not every anti-biotic has the same effectiveness for every bacterial infection. And in my opinion, morally wrong to take anti-biotics (for example) incorrectly because it affects everyone else, not just the person taking them incorrectly because it can cause bacteria to mutate into much stronger creatures, resistant to anti-biotics and someone else may actually not be cured and die on account of that. It's already happened to a great extent.

Otherwise, something like Ibuprofen or a mild pain pill that one has perhaps taken before, knows how it works on him/her, maybe that's okay within reason.

It is illegal. But not everything that is illegal is morally wrong. This particular thing can prove dangerous and morally wrong in some cases...sometimes not too dangerous and shouldn't generally be done. (imo)

I couldn't vote because it's not totally a black or white answer for me.

Oh yeah, I'd take pills from someone I know and trust for a legit need as long as they can spare them without hurting themselves.

I don't find it morally wrong. The shadiest area for me is that if you're buying them from a person, that person probably did not obtain them legally/ethically/morally. But as far as putting prescription drugs into your own body without a script, how is that morally wrong? Its your body. You have the right to ruin it any way you please. And I'm being totally serious when I say that.
