I'm on LHC. I'm also on a second one with a better sense of community, and less mod crappiness (over-mod can be an understatement there). I don't go there often anymore, occasionally lurk for hair toys though.

Go to www.mehandi.com They have really good pics and recipes for getting the color you want on your base hair color :) The henna and several other organic dyes and treatments (like amla) do make a big difference in the strength of your hair. Last time I had mine trimmed it had been well over a year and I had NO split ends at all.
If you are Canadian and want to buy henna, I have sites bookmarked, I've bought from multiple. Mehandi screws Canadians for shipping.

Year and a half of henna

I got 14" cut off a couple months (or more? Lol) ago. Today I stumbled upon a picture from last year and I officially miss my long hair! I cut it off for a good cause so I just try to remember that! Haha :)

I love long hair, I grew mine out to a few inches below my boobs (lol not sure how else to word it) but got my hair done, asked for no length off, and ended up with hair above my boobs!!! :yikes: It's finally below my boobs again when straightened and I like it to be waist length when straightened.

Thanks hun :)

I've ordered from Henna Sooq, and from hennahut. My red above is hennahut red. The yemeni I tried multiple times from henna sooq didn't do anything for me, but I sold the remainder off and that person is happy...

I'm torn on what I think about Henna sooq. They are/were toted as proudly Canadian, shipping from Canada. When I ordered over a year ago, my order shipped from the US and shipping was a little high. I was told they moved their operations back stateside. There have been discussions on LHC that they are shipping from Canada these days.. but my order very much came from America, and I ordered from the Canadian store.

The trick when buying henna is to look for BAQ (Body Art Quality) and check the lawsone content. I try to stick with at least a 2.0 or higher. The last couple of batches I've used are 2.8.

Also, you want to see that it's certified to be free of lead and other contaminants.

I've read that on LHC as well, which is partly why I asked.

Hennahut looks good! And yeah Renee, I read that as well. LHC and Maf's other forum have some great resources about where to get BAQ henna. I'm eager to try. :) Since I have dark brown hair, I would love to aim for a deep burgundy/auburn highlight in the sun.

That is good to know.

Do you just mix up a bunch of it in advance and keep it in the shower? Or do you make it to order every time? :)
You can mix in advance and as soon as I get around to getting some good glass bottles, I will. Right now I just keep a couple of glasses in the shower and the materials on the counter and mix up as needed.

There is a "switch-over" period where your scalp is going to look disgusting, because it's so used to compensating for the oils that get stripped out by the shampoo, even the gentle stuffs. Give it about 2 weeks, keep your hair up or under a bandana or something, in braids and wash about every 4 days with the baking soda/vinegar. By the end of that, the roughest part will be over and you can figure out how often you need to clean your hair from there.
My hair has been disgusting because I was washing everyday and pretty much not caring what I was doing to it. Laziness at it's best. So I've finally decided to try shampoo free. Gotta say though, SO MUCH HARDER when you have short hair that can't be braided or pulled back and work somewhere where the boss would flip if you had a bandana on. Add that to bangs and I feel gross.

But I will win!

I never wash my hair when its short! It looks way worse if I wash it. I just rinse it in the shower with water and am done.
