Foundations

I have done agility with Kiba since she was 6 months old (she's 7.5), and only in the last year have we been able to work through some of our problems and really mesh well as a team (89% Q rate last year).

The younger dogs have done some classes over the years, other sports done, and some training at home here and there. I would really like to put some nice foundations on the other 4 dogs and not go through what Kiba and I had to endure. Charlie I have not done ANYTHING agility-wise (she's 13 months) so as not to mess anything up.

Any help pointing us in the right direction would be awesome!

Take a foundations class!

Seriously, I'm about to finish my class with Keegan, and it's SO valuable. Learning the obsticles is easy - jump, walk, weave... But the stuff that goes on between the obsticles is where points are won or lost. That's what you start working on in Foundations class (a good one, anyway).

Behaviors I use at least every single day...
1) Sticky chin target
2) Backup onto an object with rear feet
3) Go to your crate, lie down, and chill
4) Emergency turns (I use a physical cue, for hearing dogs people tend to use a verbal cue)
5) Reorient before/after doorways

Clearly you need to just commute to Vermont so Charlie can join Performance Puppy classes with Gusto. It will prep them for that far off day where they get to run Pairs together

Crate Games has been awesome for us. Tons and tons of plank work for whatever contact behavior you want. Free shaping exercises (whatever you want to train, such as silly tricks). Reinforcement zone exercises, which I really really need to step up with Gusto on. I am just starting to teach directionals to him. In a couple more months, he'll start doing jump grids, then I need to re-watch Success With One Jump so we have some stuff to do at home on our tiny lawn. This summer, I plan to start 2x2s with him.

I can always just ship her to you, and you can send her back fully trained!
I think I'm mostly just need a "game plan" and what to teach first.
