Who crates and rotates?

This also. And beds near the TV, and extra crates other places for puppies, like out with the horses (because underfoot with puppies is dangerous!) so they can be with me all the time.

We crated and rotated for 3ish months with the girls. It was a pain in the ass. I don't like doing it, Matt doesn't like doing it and I worried constantly that someone would eff up and let them both out together. I don't feel like anyone gets enough attention when they're on C&R but we made it work pretty well for those three months. I honestly don't know if we could do it full time - I hate to even think it, but if we weren't able to get along we probably would've ended up re-homing Tipper.

I think where you have the crates makes a big difference. As I sit here typing Sport is in Dariens room chewing on a thing (nylabonish thing) All the others are chillin around me. Kaiden is snoozing in Bounce's crate, Bounce is snoozing on the chair behind me. Dash is curled up (in the very small JRT sized) dog bed beside me and Dekka and Seren are snoozing on top of Bounce's crate. Note: her crate is right beside and at desk height.

So even if they were crated ATM they really wouldn't be any less 'with' me than they are right now.

That would help immensely if you could have them crated in the same room as you were in. I couldn't, one because crates for Great Danes are huuuuuuge and two, my guys would have ripped apart the crates trying to get to each other. We always had at least two sturdy, bolted into the walls baby-gates or two doors between them. No way to spend time with both at the same time. That might be why it was so much more difficult for us than when you can have one dog crated and the other out in the same room.

Yes size is an issue lol. I like little crates as they are stackable. I have three JRT crates stacked beside two whippet crates. They likely take up less floor space than one Dane sized crate I have, in the past had dogs who would just go and go and go trying to get at the other one if one was crated in the same room. Luckily for the long time even dogs who have hated each other have ignored the one who is crated.

ETA as I will always have jacks and don't want them to live in kennels I have mentally planned how I would want our next house (we plan to build)

Where I see myself spending the most time is in 'the library' which would be kinda library/livingroom idea. I plan to have built in crates and spots for dogs to chill in the room. I also want a dog room with kennels and kennel runs for when I am at work. But I guess one of the reasons crating and rotating works is my guys are near me if I am doing things in the house even if they are crated. I like the idea of built in crates around the house (you know those tables that are also crates?) so that if someone has to be crated they can still be near the 'action'.

To be honest I have always found too much c/r to be down right wrong in my house. I had to c/r my staffy after he started going after Arnold and because of our schedules and number of dogs he was finding himself only out of his crate for very short periods of time all week and only real quality time out on the weekends. I was tempted for a short time to keep him, he was such a cool dog, but when the c/r developed it started to show my lifestyle is just not fair to have to c/r my dogs too much. I don't blame people most of the time for finding a suitable home for a dog instead of long term c/r, often times it's much better for the dog. I do however think people who choose to make it work are great, my thought is whatever is best for the dog is the right choice.

I tether/kennel/bedroom and rotate... Never really use a crate. Although Bonnie and Abbey don't have to be separate all the time, just when unsupervised, so I don't suppose it really applies.

Totally agree. We have one crate in the kitchen and one in the living room. If Mu is the free dog, we have the tall baby gate up between the kitchen and living room - otherwise every time something exciting happens she runs in the kitchen and starts a crate fight. It's not dangerous (they haven't actually tried to get each other) but it raises stress levels like crazy and makes it much more likely that they will fight if we try to bring them both out later. We've been working on fixing Mu's behavior but she gets to practice it just enough to keep her going (I blame Matt ). If Mu would just ignore Tipper in the crate C&R life would be much much easier.

We don't c/r yet...but have thought about it. At this point the girls get along 97% of the time and we've learned the signs and warnings and can now prevent most fights. We have the most problems between Micki and Jack and Mini and Kyra, so when we can't supervise we pair up Micki and Kyra, Jack and Mini.

I have to c&r or gate and rotate anytime I have another dog around my place, since Eve would very much like to destroy any dog who comes into her home.

I have a stone courtyard that I can gate off and put a dog in, and then I let the other dog in the house with me. If the weather isn't right to have a dog outside, I put one of them in a crate in a separate room.

I tend to rotate them every few hours. Generally speaking, Eve is with me for most of the night, and the foster dog gets attention/exercise during the day.

We do crate but only because tawny wants to be in hers. The way our house is set up you close a sliding door and its blocked in two sections so you are good. There have been times when we had multiple dogs who did not get along and it was a pain. our girls just don't get along now. Lived like this so long its a non issue. Would be nice if everyone could run in and out at once but not happening.

I have had up to 5 dogs at one time, and one thing I insist on is everyone gets along.

Yes well you can insist till you are blue in the face. But some dogs aren't going to be ok together. I used to think that way... after coming in to a blood bath (yes both dogs were crated) and having to have one of their gums stitched back to their jaw, I don't think that anymore.

I read it as they dont have dogs that need to c&r and dont know if they could handle it if they did. NOT as they are so awesome they can just 'insist' a dog not wanna kill the other

Perhaps. I just run into "well I just don't accept dog aggression so I just insist all my dogs get along and they do" all the freaking time. So that might be why I read it that way.

I have five dogs currently and it's silly to imagine them all getting along at all points all the time. No one is truly hating towards another, but my Dachshund has a short fuse with my teenager, my teenager bothers every one to a certain point, and I have two resource guarders. When my second female was added my first DID NOT like her and I thought for sure we would be a crate and rotate home, but every thing has settled in a way where I can trust them to be in the same room together (when we're present)

No crates in involved, but we have an apartment attached to our house that my foster currently stays in. I am hesitant to declare her dog aggressive rather than just fearful, but she does not seem thrilled with the idea that other dogs exist so she is NOT allowed around them and vice versa. We are working to see if she could potentially become comfortable around other dogs, but I'm not for certain.

The rotation itself is stressful for me as well. I work every day from afternoon to evening. At this point I'm hardly sleeping because I am constantly worried no one is getting enough time. I get up at 9, feed my dogs and do things with them. Around 11 I venture to the apartment and feed her, do things with her, and then by 1 I have to get ready for work. When I get home from work I have about 2-3 hours to eat, do normal life things and spend more time with the dogs, and then I retire to the apartment until about 3 in the morning to hang out with her. It's worth it because she's alive, but it ain't easy. It would be SO MUCH easier if she was just fine with dogs and every one can be together, but we manage.
