Dammit now our obed instructor is saying she can't come to class because this round of heat she's leaving occasional drips and if she's wearing panties she can't be in the building. ARGH! Whhhhyyyyyyyyyy are people so freaked by intact females?! :(
I don't know, i'm glad I don't have to train with people like that. If your dog can't be around a female in heat, it isn't trained, and you better work on that. If dogs are competing, they better be able to compete around and intact and in heat female. If you're holding training classes, you better be able to teach your students that these things come up and really aren't all the difficult to deal with and train thru, so do it.

The whole "in heat" things that people make excuses for and against drive me nuts too. Shut up and train, it really isn't that big of deal.

We trained Sloan right through her heat:

Neutered Border collie, Intact Mal, Intact Mal, In heat Mal, Intact GSD. (all boys except Sloan).

My friend got a bunch of "OMG!!"s on her FB when she posted this. It seemed so odd to me. :/

There's this woman in my obedience class who freaked the hell out because there was what might have been blood on the floor and she has intact males and omg they could not POSSIBLY function if there were a girl in heat in the building. The instructor ended up moving her rally course around to avoid the area.

If it's that big a deal, neuter your male?

Good lord.

I think it becomes a big deal when you have a male who never, ever is expected to work with a bitch in season within sniffing range. People are so weird!

Yeah I went to agility drop-in two weeks ago with Webby since I wasn't sure if Mira would be allowed (gave Kim the week off) and asked if Mira was allowed to come while in heat (wearing panties of course, don't want drops of blood in the building). You'd have though I asked to bring a Velociraptor to class.

Now in the summer it's not as big a deal...you still can't have them in class but at the outdoor facility you can bring them and work them after class if you want...still annoying but at least there are options...

And I agree. Wish it was more like parts of Europe where dogs can trial in heat and it's normal. If your dog can't handle that...well it's like any other distraction...train them or leave them at home. People are bloody nuts about reproductive organs.

It's not our instructor really, it's the rules of the dog training club where the class is held. o_O Totally, utterly, ridiculously STUPID. Our schh club has females in heat attend without issue, so it's doubly foreign for me.

Kes was happy though as he was allowed to fill in for Aeri. LOL

I don't allow ppl to bring in-heat girls to class, for the simple reason that I have too many novice ppl that are learning to control their dogs. And I don't want any of them pee'ing/marking inside my building which has a sand/clay surface.

Question: the dogs lined up in a nice stay? Was the bitch in a standing/flagging heat and were any of the those intact boys used as studs? If the answer to both those questions is yes, then I am very impressed.

I can understand in a basic pet obedience class to some extent, but this obed class is competition obedience prep and the class in the ring next to us is Novice Rally. ;)

Yeah the class I'm talking about is a master's level class and it's the only dogs/training going on in the whole building at that time. Also, there are panties and Mira's not a marker anyway, especially when working.

I mean I get it as a general rule. Most intro classes the handlers are struggling mightily to get their dogs to focus even when there's very very little else going on. But I would hope the time dogs are running for MACHs or Nationals that they are working to a level where having a girl in heat around may take a bit of proofing but it's going to cause a meltdown. And she wasn't in flagging/standing heat yet.

LoLa is in heat right now..coming out finally! She can not train at our OB club because it is a rule that in heat bitches can not be in the building. It might distract the boys.

That said, I have a GSD that has been used as a stud, and we do OB around her as much as possible. I EXPECT my boys to work through smells and that includes the smell of an intact bitch in season! I thankfully can still take LoLa to Schutzhund.

If you trial at shows that are held in conjuction with conformation shows, more than likely your male is going to smell a bitch in season since they are allowed in the conformation ring.

The obed club I worked with let girls (with panties) in. I can't say when teaching the intro classes (which is what I did) that dogs were more distracted.
