Can anyone help me tell what type of dog my Sami is?

She is 40lbs. Very sweet and laid back. Rarely if ever barks. Loves walks and car rides. Grunts when happy. Doesn't drool. Has a bubble butt and never sits straight. And she thinks she is a lap dog. Very strong tail that hangs down, it doesn't point up at all
I hope the pic will post......

She was very easy to train, stays with us even when not on a leash. Not high energy at all. Is afraid of cats (except for our cats) ...... did I mention she was perfect? Cause she was :)

She passed away on Saturday from heart disease...... we loved her so much. We found her 6 yrs ago. We couldn't replace her ever but I love her personality and everything about her, so I am hoping if I know her basic breed I can search some animal shelters, etc. and maybe find me a new friend.

I know she has some type of hound.......

So sorry for your loss :( She was beautiful and had such a gentle, sweet looking face.

I am not a hound person, but I would imagine some sort of beagle mix. I am sure someone with more hound experience will chime in :)

Her color reminds me of a Coonhound (AKC just recognized the "American English Coonhound", but I've seen ones in that color called "Red tick" too). But I'm not sure, her general shape makes me think more of a Cocker spaniel, the long ears and pronounced brow. Maybe, Spaniel/hound?

I never thought of spaniel.... interesting. I did so love her soft floppy ears :0)
Thanks for the ideas!

So far we have Beagle mix and Spaniel.... anymore ideas?

I did find a hound rescue near us and they have puppies! Usually I am not set on a puppy, we look for our new family members based on personality. But the kids are pretty set on a puppy and with us having cats and another very old dog (she is 12 and has a collasping throat, her name is Bayli, we rescued her when she was 5 weeks old. Some evil person had covered her in bubblegum and dumped her near a busy road) I think a puppy would be a great idea this time.

The kids want to name our newest member Samantha Jane Jr.

Ohh I am so sorry for your loss, I have never had a feret but I have heard they make great friends.
Sami had heart disease and stomach cancer, they both came on suddenly.
We had to put her to sleep on Saturday.

a little chunky in her old age but she looks like a deer/hare/fox beagle. they are beagles bred over standard for running deer, hare, fox & coyote (know of some used on bear in NC). some have coon or foxhound added to boost size & then bred back to beagle. beagles come in red & blueticked.

I would say beagle mix. I don't really see any coonhound. So sorry for your loss. She was beautiful.

The coloring reminds me of my Lady

Even down to the white over a darker brown. She was ACD/Border Collie. The coloring and body looked sooo familiar on the pic in the top row on right corner. So maybe ACD mixed with some sort of hound?

even though it will sound that way, i don't mean it in a rude way. you need to see more coonhounds. i can open issues of full cry, american cooner & coonhound bloodlines and find at least one registered english that looks just like her (only bigger). working bred dogs just aren't cookie cutter like show bred dogs. an individual line often will be but the breed as a whole will be all over the map. american coonhound breeds have ancestry from all over western europe and their conformation will reflect that.
for that matter working beagles show a lot of variation. w/ a little effort i can find grade & registered beagles that not only look exactly like her, but are the same size.

.............. whatever you say. I know my hounds, thank you very much. I have a coonhound, who are you to say I need to see more? I have seen plenty and know what they look like. Your comment is laughable that I need to see more.
