Interesting old dog pictures

Wow, yeah, that's something I'd probably be kicking myself for not snatching up too. I hate when that stuff happens, lol.

My "surrogate" grandfather collects a ton of old photos. He will buy full albums, etc, and sell them on eBay and there is always cool stories behind them. I just love photos, so much can be told through them. I told him to keep an eye out for any dog-related old photos for me.

I think it'd be cool to have a few black and whites to frame above my bed or something.

Poodles can still be corded. I've seen a couple that could have been corded if their owners had wanted to (it's a LOT of upkeep).

Oooooh, I really like this type of boxer (1944). I don't like the extreme smooshed faces that are in style now.

Hmmmm.... these photos really got me thinking. I've been needing stuff to hang on my wall and I really think a few vintage dog photos would be cool. Technically, I guess, if I found one of good enough quality online, I could just print them on my printer and find some nice frames for them. I wonder if I could do something cool with that? I'd probably pick 3 or 4 of different breeds.

This is Linus. He comes in for boarding every so often and he is about the most perfect English Mastiff I've ever come across. Not the world's best picture, but I think it gets the point across.


This is Hartnagle's Hud, one of the foundation sires to the modern day Aussie. Hartnagle's outfit became Las Rocosa (HOF #1) and Hud was one of his predominate sire This picture was probably taken in the late 50's.


The working Aussie hasn't changed a tremendous amount over the years. I can't speak as much to the AKC Aussie, since in the intervening years from 1994 when they were accepted into the AKC, there has been an emphasis on coat and bone, resulting in a burly dog that more closely resembles a Golden Retriever with a docked tail.

Some breeds haven't changed much.

Oh! Thanks for letting me know! Never have seen one, even in books or online, until this picture, haha. I actually do like the look of that one though! Maybe it's just the longer corded ones that don't appeal to me.

I have an old book that shows black Samoyeds too.

The Pap who seems to have an overly short back, looks to have something very wrong with his rear legs. If you look at his hocks, they are almost bent in towards his body and his rear is really under his body. It looks similar, from this picture to a Pom that comes into the grooming shop I work at who has deformed rear legs. Whatever is going on with the rear is causing the dog to look all scrunched up.

Of course, I love the leggier corgis and wish the ultra-dwarf style never became fashionable (let alone the ultra-dwarf and FAT style). I look at old Corgis and think that they look like such very able bodied dogs, probably quite athletic.

I LOVE looking at old breed pictures- it's so interesting to see how much breeds have changed.
