One thing that has become so cliche is the word "absolutely." It bugs me so much and yet I'm finding myself doing the same thing! Absolutely! Here's what I mean: Absolutely is so, so, so frequently used in place of the word, "yes." They are not exactly the same. Absolutely means at the exclusion of anything else...perfect, pure, complete, free from limitation. Yes means yes. LOL. Well...something like that. But why can't people just say, "yes" when they don't really mean an emphatic "absolutely?" I mean everyone says "absolutely" all the time and all they'd need is a simple, "yes." :rofl1:

"Do you like a house with a brick front?" "Absolutely." Now, does the person really, really, really mean that they like a brick front ONLY and not a stone front or wood or one made out of gold? But brick exclusively? Or do they simply like a brick facing on the house?

Here's another one: "I feel that he made a poor choice in the dilapidated car he just bought." "We feel that this decision will destroy our economy." "I feel that you should not purchase that coat." Do you really feel it? Or is it possible that you think it? Why does everyone have to feel something? Doesn't anyone think anymore?

(OMG! I sound just like Andy Rooney):D

Do you have any pet peeves such as these? Now...don't call me the English nazi! This can not qualify as a pet peeve!:p

Do ya, know what I am saying?

I also find myself angered by referring to anything as "gay."

"Winning" is also a word of the year that can just go find a hole to die in along with the remnants of Charlie Sheen's career.

Mine would be "like" and "seriously". "Seriously" is the new "like"... like seriously! :p

Oh yeah! Those are some doozers, ya know what I mean? Seriously, like dude, totally.

I gotta admit, I think I use those my fair share too! Arrgggg!

Kat, how 'bout instead of "ya know what I'm saying," "do ya feel me?" I've heard that a few times which is a few times more than I can bare.

Oh yeah...."that is so gay." Somebody has really wrecked the true meaning of gay. It use to mean cheery or jubilant.

My mom says "ya know" a lot and I sometimes I tell her "no I don't know" and she gives me the most confusing look.

Omg is up there too. Used way to much.

Hope Bouya doesn't it make its way back, although I heard it in a recent radio commercial.

LOL. What does hope bouya mean? Now I'm really confused.

My daughter and I both make jokes about her aunt from Chicago. She has the most annoying habit of saying excessively, "ya know what I mean?" at least once per sentence, more often every partial phrase. No exaggeration. Seriously. Do you know what I mean? It's as though she thinks we're all a bunch of "absolute" morons. "I was walking along the side walk, ya know what I mean? and this dog came out of his yard, ya know what I mean. He scared me but was friendly, ya know what I mean? Then his owner, ya know what I mean called him back ya know what I mean." LOL. I want to scream ya know I mean!:rofl1:

There is a phrase that irks me to no end:

I could care less.

Ummm....what? You could or you could not care less. Which is it. Lol

My hubby says this all the time, and I'll ask him, "Well, just how much less could you care?". Then I remind him thst if you do not care, then it is "could not". He hates me. :D

I always took it as "I could care but I dont". Yes, that's a confusing one.

Oh yessiree! That's a big one for me too. I could care less means that on a 1-10 scale of caring...1 being the least amount of care, you're at perhaps a 4. So, there's still more room to care less. I couldn't care less means you're at a 1 or a 0. You have no care whatsoever...zero, zip. You couldn't care any less because you are at the lowest possible level of caring. You've reached the end of all possibility of caring more. You might even be at a -5 level of caring, you care so little.

There. Does that clear things up? :p

I was wondering who might notice that. LOL!

Okay....so....Mia....will that explanation of couldn't care less make sense, do you think, to your husband? I mean...that's how I see it. Is that how you see it? One time I saw how it might make sense the other way. But now I can't remember what that was I was seeing. Oh well....I couldn't care less. I guess I'm just so apathetic these days. Oh well...who cares?

Corporate neologisms, like "proactive" and "incentivize". I'm sure I could think of more. However, not only do I find myself using them, I find myself using them in briefs. A partners who won't let a split verb escape them (that, by the way, was never a rule) will cheerfully ignore them or add some of their own. Argh.

Made up conjugations!

"Malnutritioned" Uhm, what? I believe the word you're looking for is Malnourished! According to firefox, orientated is a word but I'm pretty sure it's easier to say and type oriented!
