A friend of mine received a very unwanted Christmas gift from her boyfriend, a young female rat. She is terrified of them and he didn't know apparently... Yet another reason why giving pets as Christmas gifts is not a grand idea. So... I took the rat off her hands for her. Not sure if we are going to keep her or not. I'd like to.

Pics soon? And name ideas for the little girl. I like unique names

Yeah, rats generally do better in at least pairs.

That said, if you give a rat enough attention, they can be fine as singletons. But I like to remind people... in my experience, rats are A LOT like dogs. They are just as smart (if not smarter), just as easy to train, and require the same kind of attention as you would give a dog to be happy.

THAT said... I'm going to think of some awesome names for ya. :D

PS: PICS!!!!

So actually my hubby loves her. He wishes she was a boy because he wants to call her Splinter from teenage mutant ninja turtles. I did mention that if we keep her she would need a buddy. The cage is pretty good sized with 4 levels so we could easily add another female. I just need to take the **** wheel out of the cage since I'm afraid of her injuring herself.

Sorry, Skittle. I forgot that you've had rats before. Didn't mean to be redundant with info!

The only name I've come up with thus far is Eivor. It's Scandanavian and means "wise gift".

Oooh pics!!! I love rats but have never been allowed them (all the family hate them). She will need a friend, its good that the cage sounds plenty big enough to add another one or two!

Haha I love it when they are babies and their tails are really pink. I just don't like it when their tails get gross and brown and dirty looking, but my last one I kept her tail pretty clean and pink for a long time. I don't mind the tails lol
