That seems really high for a 3G. Mine died awhile back and my husband just upgraded his because it was so painfully slow.

Yeah, I got my 3GS in back in February for $50...You could probably get a 4 for something close to that price.

iPhones have their own type of SIM. You can't swap back and forth between other brands of phones regardless of whether it's the same carrier or not.

And I paid $200 for my iPhone 4 right when they came out. I could've gotten an iPhone 3 for $50 back then. (ATT/Cingular online)

I wouldn't pay $125 at all.

When I had T-Mobile, I took my SIM card out of my then current Samsung phone, put it in an iPhone 3G, and used it. If she has AT&T or T-Mobile, she should be fine.

I have a Samsung, but it's with Koodo/Telus... not sure if it'd work or not.

I can't afford to get one on a contract, so I was looking for used ones that are already paid completely.

If you really really want an iPhone, there's a 3G laying around here somewhere that Adam just said he'd part with for $50.

for an iphine to be used on an outside carrier it has to be jailbroken. do a google search , it is almost easy . also craigslist around here advaetises jailbreaking for like 15.00. when it is jailbroken then you can get a GSM sim card to use.

There are several carriers who use GSM cards , the biggest is T-Mobile.
You can get cheaper ones online , just google GSM sim cards.

I think AT&T is offering the 3GS for free for a lot of people. So that definitely sounds like a rip off! But I guess if you are not getting the contract and all that.

Bogart, I've never had any carrier than Bellsouth/Cingular/ATT. I still have my very first car phone....the giant suitcase analog phone! Lol

I still couldn't use a SIM from my previous phone for my iPhone.

I had a Samsung smartphone through ATT. I could not use that SIM in my iPhone.
Which iPhone do you have? The 4 uses a microSIM, which would mean your regular SIM card wouldn't work. I don't know if that's what happened in your case, but it's a guess.

I wouldn't pay someone to jailbreak it. It's so completely simple, especially if you have someone walk you through it.

Why would she need to buy a new SIM card? She should already have one.

you can get micro sim cards also . the main question is what carrier do you have now and do they use GSM sim cards instead of CDMA ones.

If it is CDMA then it wont work. Any GSM sim will. to find out what kind you have google it.

the 3gs use standard size sim cards . i have a t-mobile one in a 3gs right now. the new 4 and 4s use the micro ones , and you can get a sim trimmer.

probably because your phone is locked. is it jail broken?
att and the others use a program on there iphones that do not allow outside carriers to use the phone for there signal. the software on the phone is modified to be able to use it with other gem carries. that is probably why you could not use it.

send the suitcase to the museum ! lol i saw one not long ago and was marveling how cool i used to think they where , now i am shocked anyone would lug one around!

If she has a SIM card currently, it has to be GSM. CDMA doesn't use SIM cards.

Google says Telus uses GSM for 3G, and CDMA for 2G. Which meeaaans... If you're not in a 3G service area, the phone isn't going to work. (Last part directed at AgilityPup, lol.)
