The Official "What are you reading" Thread

Finished Heart of Darkness, I liked it quite a bit. I thought it was beautifully written for someone who didn't speak a word of English until they were an adult.

Also finished Henry IV part 1, it was pretty great, but rather confusing with many similar names/nicknames/etc. I just started Henry V.

Also reading a book called Invisible Cities, by Italo Calvino, it's so good!

Right now I'm reading Moby Dick. I'm really, really enjoying it.

Inheritance by Paolini. It's book 4 (and supposedly the final) in the series.

lol is it weird that I read a comforting special book I've read a million times after I finish a new book? I feel like I can't move onto another new book without doing it lol

I've read do many books that I haven't kept track. Lol. I go through a book every two to three days.

I'm reading "Self-Portrait" by Gene Tierney. <333

I've got a few pages left. I am actually kinda disappointed. I figured out two of the "mysteries" on my own and somewhat at the beginning. And I'm having a hard time connecting. But based on the reviews, it must just be me. Lol

I did just order the second book (nook) so I'll start it tonight when the kiddos are in bed.

I'm reading "Reefer Madness" by Eric Schlosser (author of Fast Food Nation.) Interesting but not as good as Fast Food Nation IMO. Just finished the Twilight series...finally got talked into reading them, really liked them actually.

The last two I read were Collecting Cooper by Paul Cleave and Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward.

Collecting Cooper was excellent - a very interesting take on the typical "crime novel". If you're a fan of Criminal Minds, you'll like this book. It is a bit graphic, though, so not for quesy stomachs.

Salvage the Bones was also good. It details the life of a teenage girl and her family in the week leading up to Hurricane Katrina - kind of a "coming of age" story. Be forewarned - there is mentions of dog fighting in this book. It's told in a way that makes it...less gruesome...but you have to accept that it is part of the culture in that area, and the author is telling it how it is.

I just finished "Inheritance" today. I'm probably going to either read "A breath of snow and ashes" (Gabaldon) or "Merciless" (Parish) next.

I finished "The Girl who Played with Fire". I decided to fit in "War Horse" before the third book. Loved "War Horse"!

I am currently reading The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor. I finished all the comics. Im addicted to the Walking Dead.

Is War Horse the book that the upcoming Spielberg film is based on?

I've been on a historical fiction kick lately. I've read Shanghai Girls, Dreams of Joy, and Snow Flower And The Secret Fan (all by Lisa See). Great books, harsh in places. Shanghai Girls has a crappy ending so you have to read Dreams of Joy with it, it's a sequel.

I want to read Girl In Translation next. After that, I'll probably venture back into my favourite realm of science/weird fiction. China Mieville has a new novel out called Embassytown that appears to be about other planets, politics and ambassadors. Mmmm.

The second book was better than the first, but I've enjoyed both. I think I like the detail the most.

War Horse is an older children's book, and I remember reading it in the nix 80's. But I bought it for my nook and I still loved it as an adult. I'm very interested in seeing the movie.

Oh, and I've started "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest". I hope it's good as well!

Currently Crystal Singer by Anne McCaffrey. Mourning just a bit. Sigh.

Before this I read Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi. Post-apocalyptic YA adventure-y fiction. Well-deserved winner of the Printz Prize. I loved it so much.

I just started It Looked Different on the Model by Laurie Notaro. It's extremely funny, if you like that kind of humor. Each chapter is a different short little story, so it's easy to put down and pick up again.
