She's ok, thank god. We had a slip up at work and a Dane burst out of the grooming room and grabbed her. I ripped him off by his prong collar (I'm lucky I didn't get bitten, I know, but she's my girl and I didn't think).

Thank god he didn't kill shake, and thank god she's slippery, skinny, and strong.

I got her away from the Dane and threw her to my boss. I thought she was fine and then I saw blood on my hands... Nasty puncture on the underside of her chest.

My boss's partner drove me to the closest vet, and they were super weird and told me I had to leave her there because no doctor was in. I said I would wait for the doctor (however long it took) and they told me I would have to leave and couldn't wait with her, which I thought was too freaking weird. I mean, I get they couldn't guarantee when the doc would be in, but why are you kicking me out? Why can't I wait with my puppy? No way that was happening. Besides, I can get her seen sooner somewhere else.

Anyway, we went to the next closest vet and they were lovely. Found two more wounds on her back, clipped them all down and flushed them out. Luckily, the puncture in her chest only goes through the first layer of muscle, and not into the lung. They gave me some Rimadyl and antibiotics.

Keeva handled it like a trooper. Past the initial bite, she never even cried. She was bleeding on my leg in the car, but not crying, haha. Mentally, she's pissed, not scared.

I am... I don't know, still almost in disbelief. I just keep thinking it could have been so much worse. It was a full grown male Dane, and Keeva weighs 15lbs.

The damage:

Those marks are from his canines... that's how big his mouth was.

The worst puncture...

Crate rest gives her a sad, especially at work when she knows her friends are in the back.

I just... ugh. My poor girl. Her new name is Swiss Cheese. Full of holes, haha.

Poor baby girl! I'm so glad that she's fine and there's no serious damage. Those are some nasty puncture wounds. I'm giving her an e-cookie for those crate sads. <3

Oh no, poor Keeva! My heart dropped when I saw the thread title. How SCARY! I would have reacted the SAME way with my boy.

I am so glad Keeva is going to be okay. She looks sooo sad, but I know she will get all the lovin's from her mommy and be all better in no time.

Amazing what you can do when something like that happens, isn't it? I don't know what it is, most Danes I've met have been lovely, but every now and then you get one that is just . . . weird and out there.

I can imagine your relief that little Keeva's okay. She looks pretty bright-eyed in her crate, so hopefully she won't carry emotional scars and fears with her <3

That would have killed me--I'm so glad she's okay.

I know what you mean about reaching in without thinking. I've been there, too--and after it's like, "How did I not get nailed?"

Hoooooly crap, how long did it take the adrenaline to wear off after that?? :yikes:

So glad everything is ok and she wasn't hurt worse! Start calling her Her Holiness Keeva the Unflappable. ;)

I'm sorry. :(

I've totally been there with Oz. He's had his butt kicked so many times it's not even funny. :( I've done the same thing, including snatching him out of the middle of three pit bulls (that he had TOTALLY been friends with up until that point) and throwing him around my neck. I almost got nailed that time, one of them jumped up and grabbed me by my jacket at my armpit. Luckily it was a carhartt, and it takes a lot more than that to rip one of those.

And yeah, it took HOURS of shaking before the adrenaline ran off.

Hopefully her Holeyness won't be put off by this too badly. She's got an awesome mom, and good dog friends to help her out. And she seems to be a pretty stable little girl. :D

So glad she's okay Emily! That's scary for sure! My guys are fine with the cats and smaller dogs, but I've seen what they can do with other critters when prey drive kicks in, it takes just a split second. Keeva is one lucky pup! I'm so sorry you had such a scare! Good healing vibes to Keeva for a speedy and uneventful recovery.
