YUCK! Grooming advice needed

I should preface this and say normally I would never let something like this slide instead of immedietly bathing both dogs, but I have a bit of a crisis situation resolving itself in my life and in between everything I've felt exhausted and drained that I let it slide until today to bathe them and now cannot get the smell out.

I took Duke and Mav on a hike for a run at a trail on friday afternoon. On the hike, Duke found 3 dead fish that were highly decomposed and did a great job of thoroughly smoushing all of that decomposed matter into his fur. Mavrick managed to sneak one rub in, but Duke is deffiently the worst of the two. I got home and spritz the heck out of them with a leave in shampoo and then washed them down with a wet towel and crated them for the evening.

It was a hard day to get up and get them out and I felt exhausted and ready to hit the sack as soon as I got home, enough to ignore the smell while they slept in their crates.

I tackled everything today, and while my car, the house, the dogs beds smell great now, Duke and Mavrick do not. I let the shampoo (oatmeal based) sit for 20 miniutes on each dog and then rinsed thoroughly. Initially they smelt ok, but I realised later that they both still smell, though its certainly not tooo pungent.

Any ideas on a course of action?

What about, like, tomato juice? Isn't that what they advise for a dog that gets sprayed by a skunk? It's gotta work on dead-fish smell, LOL.

Btw, I know how awful that smell is. Jackson and my aunts Pit rolled in dead fish on the beach last summer and PHEW, it was awful. I think it took a few shampoos for the Pittie to have it completely off him.

Thanks, I will continue to work on the smell tommorow, my friend came with me on the hike and on the drive back I told her inbetween chocked breathes what a good friend she was for coming on the stinkiest car ride home EVER LOL!

I've heard that baking soda gets smells out. My friend's lab and great dane were sprayed by a skunk last weekend and she used baking soda, apparently it got most of the smell out.

Solo rolls in anything dead often. And now the fish at this time of year and dying all over the streams here too (obviously we are in the same area lol)

I never used anything fancy on him. Just tropicclean shampoo, a good scrubbing and some dog perfume works for us. He literally gets a bath in it almost daily. I can think of 3 baths I gave him since last weekend, and i think the BF bathed him once or twice this week too lol he is a filthy, nasty, dirtydirtydirtydirty dog.he is lucky we love him so much lol

I have heard of people using 1 Qt 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 tsp. liquid soap (just googled the amounts) with good results. Though I'm not sure how I feel about using peroxide near their faces/orifices.

Charlie used to roll in everything on a daily basis. Nothing got the smell out for long, except for Dr. Bronner's liquid castile soap, the peppermint oil kind. That type made him smell minty fresh for about 12 hours post-bath. Any other type and he'd go back to smelling like cow crap and dead fish within 2 hours of the bath, so not even fully dry yet.

Thats what we use at my work for skunked dogs. Just dont put it in their eyes.
