How often do you give your dog(s) a bath?

Pretty simple question, and I know it's been asked before, but I figure there are new people and maybe new answers...

Also, how do you dry them?


As for me, I give Frodo a bath every couple months and I usually just let him run around outside to dry off. My plan is to get better about bathing him more regularly (to keep his low chest clean more than anything else) and to figure out how to dry him through the winter. I don't own a hair dryer or a forced air dryer (I wish!!)

When they need it.

Traveler gets washed maybe once a month in the Spring/Summer/Fall at most and once every couple to three months at minimum. He never rolls in anything ever, he has a really nice wash and wear coat that keeps itself clean but I go to the dog park often and he swims in all sorts of water.

But I pretty much only wash him if he's going somewhere he should be extra nice for. Last bath he got was at the Dog Daycare because he was covered in dog slobber :rofl1:

Kaylee on the other hand gets washed whenever she rolls in something dead. That could be once a week or once every couple months. She likes to roll in dead things so given the chance she will and then she gets dragged into the bath. And her coat doesn't stay clean when running through mud like his does. So she ends up with more baths than Traveler.

To dry I tend to just towel them off and throw them in the crate in winter.

Elsie gets a bath about once a month. I give her one whenever she needs it. Most of the time stuff just falls out of her coat when I brush her. Sometimes she gets into something gross, like stagnant lake water or something.

To dry her, I just towel her until she's mostly dry and then let her run it off. I try to bathe her in the early afternoon so she's dry by bedtime.

weekly for most of them, quarterly for the other two.

With Juno it's pretty random. Basically whenever I want her to smell good, or whenever she's gotten into something nasty. Jumping into the algae-covered pond at the dog park is a sure way to earn a bath.

Typically it's probably once or twice a month. Less in the winter because she's not as gross. I just rub her down with a towel and she dries pretty quickly after that.


Lucy goes to the groomer about every 8 weeks so most of the time I don't have to worry about her. Sometimes she gets a bit stinky or dirty inbetween groomings, so I'll bathe her then. I dry her with a hair dryer only because her hair gets ugly if it air dries. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Like never. My dogs are all super houndy-greasy and smelly right now... but I just can't find the motivation to have a dog bathing day. So I keep doing laundry...

I'm incredibly lazy about washing the dogs. I don't think Murphy's been bathed in.....a really long time. Possibly last fall. LOL. But he smells really nice, he doesn't roll in anything EVER, he doesn't get in water, and he doesn't stay dirty. Plus he really hates being bathed and he clogs up my drains. However - if he smelled or he was greasy I would wash him. Eventually.

Mu and Tipper get washed like every 3-4 months. Usually when their coats get a bit icky. In the summer time they're dusty all the freaking time (our backyard is dirt) so I usually just wipe them down with the shampoo wipes.

This makes me sound terrible but I swear, my dog's DON'T smell and their coats aren't icky. *crossesheart*

Solo could have a daily bath some weeks, and sometimes he gets bathed only once every 2 weeks. he is a dirty boy, and given the oppertunity to roll in dead fish, coyote poo, dead animals ect, he will. And he needs a bath after that. And since we offleash hike every day, he normally finds something out in the bush to roll in.

Blaze maybe once or twice a month. He is a much cleaner dog lol.

I let solo air dry, i towel him off best as possible.

For Blaze he normally comes in to work with me for a bath, so I use a HV dryer on him there. At home I have a HV dryer, but its a pain to go outside and use it, espeacially now that its getting colder out. Im sure my neighbors hate me for all the hair i blow around lol

Whenever they get dirty, so every couple of months. Most of the time I can just let mud dry and brush it off.

A couple times a year, maybe? We've had Boo for four years now and I could probably count the number of full baths she's had on my 10 fingers.

Usually, if she's going to get a bath it's either before a big holiday or because she rolled in something.

Never. They get to swim in the summer, but that's about it. No baths here. I hosed a dog off twice in my life. Once when she was a puppy and puked all over her crate when I was gone. and once when my other dog tangled with a skunk. OTherwise they never get a bath, they don't need it.

Argon almost never gets bathed. He's incredibly prissy, and I swear he repells dirt. He's more like a cat (or a baby) then a dog.

Gambit...um, every three weeks or so. He's so rough and tumble at daycare and the dog park he ends up all filthy.

They both get a bath before the vet, though, and Argon gets his nails polished. Just so it looks like I take good care of them. :lol-sign:

Morgan is another "as needed" dog, though he usually decides when he needs it before we do. He's the only dog I know of that will ask for a bath/shower if he feels icky. LOL! I guess it generally rounds out to once every couple of months.

As needed, but that varies from dog to dog. I LOVE Desoto's coat he gets a bath probably every 3 months or so. Dirt brushes of easily and he hates puddles and stinky things. Basically he gets one when he gets a little itchy or his white trim is getting a little discoloured. I let him air dry in the house.

Radar was averaging one a week since he was so filthy and had fleas when we brought him home. He goes a little longer now but his coat discolors easy. A small rough and tumble all white dog is a design flaw I think lol. He is always getting into something, ever smell a dog who has rolled in dead snake....its not pretty. So every couple weeks for him, longer in the winter I am hoping. I towel dry then let him air dry about 2/3 of the way and then blow dry for a nice finish.

Usually every 2-4 weeks but sometimes I stretch it longer if I'm lazy, every 2 weeks when I'm on top of it.
Buster can hold out longer than Quinn because he likes to be clean and she doesn't. Quinn also has a great love of rolling in poo and getting as filthy as possible, Buster ONLY like rolling in dead things.

Quinn also smells more "doggy" than Buster, Busters coat holds the smell of the shampoo for a couple of weeks if he doesn't get dirty, Quinn starts smelling like a dog after a few days.

every 2-4 weeks. When we are on our frontline treatments they get them about 4-5 days before their new treatment each month. If they roll in something or get dirty then they will get one in between. During the winter they get them less
