Vent!

Just because I'm really dumbfounded by people's stupidity...

My husband just called me and told me that a stranger walked INTO our yard while the dogs were out. Found out after that apparently he is a business man, opening a new business in the neighbourhood, and trying to get to know people. My husband was out in the yard with his parents they are working on building a shed... so I guess this guy figured because they were there, that it was safe to just walk in without permission......

Joey (husband) yells at him to stop (our yard is big so he couldn't get there in time), and says one of our dogs is not friendly (Riley) and he just responds, "Its ok!! I have labs, I know all about dogs!" or something stupid like that. So he continues to come in the yard... THEN he goes and tries to pet Riley, who by this time has probably stopped barking and is trying to sniff him, so he thinks it's ok. Riley nipped him. Nothing serious thank goodness, but I almost wish he would have done worse to teach this guy a lesson. :wall: :wall:

Seriously, dude, does the sign on our fence, and a gigantic barking guard dog not mean anything to you?



Needless to say he got a lecture from Joey, but I don't know if it will resonate. Sigh.

How scary and infuriating! Its so, so frustrating that people don't realize that not all dogs are friendly.

Did the man try to blame Riley/your husband?

Did he walk into the back yard or the front?

WOW... people are REALLY dumb sometimes. Ugh.

I walk a Rottweiler and I've had people pull that crap on me, and I'm like uh, NO, he's not friendly. Sometimes it amazes me, I guess it's not a terrible thing that people see a Rottweiler and aren't scared half to death, but at the same time, don't be an idiot.

Back yard! I don't think he blamed them, I don't think he got hurt - he was just totally clueless. Joey tried to explain the breed and how Riley is super protective and he was lucky he didnt lose a limb! (some over exaggeration there so maybe he won't do it again)

If there was no one home, I'm not sure what Riley would have done (we don't leave them out anyways when we're not home) but because Joey was there, he did let the guy in the yard, and probably would have been fine if the guy didn't try to interact with him. If he just would have ignored him, it would have been fine.

Dense and blind...or perhaps he could not be bothered to read your sign?

People amaze me with how dumb they can be at times.

IDIOT. People can be so incredibly dense sometimes, like the bible thumpers who continue to ring our door bell when there is not only a "Baby sleeping, please come back later" sign clearly hung over the door bell, but also a sight that says "This home holds a family of proud Wiccans - Please take your religious propaganda elsewhere." AND another one in the front window (right by the door) that says BEWARE OF DOGS. REALLY? How much of the freaking population is illiterate, and why do they all seem to be around dog people???

Ack People are just so rude. Im a christian, but I find those Bible thumping, door too door people very rude and annoying and personally they make christianity look bad alot of the time. ACK!!! Puts a bad taste in my mouth.

Im trying to think of a clever sign to put up for when I get my mastiff, unfortunatly putting up a "Beware of dog" sign makes you liable if the dog does bit someone.

I wonder if a "dogs on duty" would be an ok one??

You can't miss the sign. Maybe I should have gone with something a little more explicit?

I want these signs, with this wording, hmmn... I wonder if there is a place that does custom signs for cheap?

What totally is odd to me is that there are people like my husband and his family that just flat out don't have a clue that there are not nice dogs out there. My husband admitted that before he met me, he just thought all dogs were nice and that's how his mom, sister and entire family are.

Haha, I used to have blinders on when it came to not so friendly dogs- but I was a kid, so don't hold it against me!

I'd stick with something simple, like this:



and then take down everyone's name, number, place of business, etc and threaten to sue for trespassing.

Time to padlock that gate! What a jerk. Backup, we haven't a clue, but Sloan... well... no one wants to find out.

That would be so infuriating and alarming! We're a public business, so our dogs are used to people coming in the gate. The only people they seriously hassle are noisy drunks and anyone acting obviously aggressive/confrontational toward them. I can't believe some people wouldn't pay attention to a sign, a shouty dog, AND the owner of the property telling them to stop.

Haha, We have one somewhere that has a GSD on it that says "I can make the gate in 2.5. Can you?" And another one that says "No Warning Shots Will Be Fired."

I want to get the companion to the last one that says "If You Heard The Bang, You Weren't The Target"


Seriously, Ozzy is our dog most likely to hurt someone. He doesn't like strangers, and he doesn't like them in his yard unless we bring them through the gate.

I like to sit on the back patio and read, and in the summer, I usually leave the door open. One time some random dude walked up the driveway, and I still had Apollo, my GSD, well, I didn't see him, I'm one of those people who is oblivious if I'm reading a good book, but he just walked up the driveway and was walking towards me when Apollo came out of the house at him, the guy was really surprised, and tried to act tough and stomp at Apollo to stop his charge. Well, Apollo was no shrinking violet, and he muzzle punched him in the crotch.

It ended up the guy was at the wrong house, but dude, you don't just walk up someones driveway, and let yourself into their backyard. Like, wtf? I told him he was lucky Apollo hadn't bitten him, and he was all "If he bit me, I'd call the police, yada yada yada" Dude, you're on MY property, in MY backyard, uninvited, and you want to call the police because you got bit? They'd have laughed him out of town. They would have too, because I know all of them

Better yet?
Violaters will be sued until they have nothing but dirty underpants left.
