Saturday evening Maddie while I was out, my brother texted me that Maddie had gotten into stuff, and was getting sick.
So I came home, and kept a close eye on her. At first it was just normal vommiting and diahrea... nothing too extreme, and she still had her typical appetite. By Sunday evening, she was extra itchy, and her ears were red and inflammed. I cleaned them, and gave her a benedryl (this is probably what saved us through the weekend) Monday we went to the vet, she was swollen and broke out ALL over... back, belly, legs, head, neck(really bad on her neck) It was just awful
She ate Swheat Scoop cat litter (which is my ferret litter)... which IS digestible and all that, but it is WHEAT based... And Maddie is not supposed to have wheat :( Apparently, she is not just "sensitive" to grains, but is actually allergic to wheat :( :(
She got a benadryl shot (I forget the technical name) and I've been pushing benadryl at home, and her baths.

The worst is over, but she has scabs ALL OVER and she is very itchy & miserable :( (

Can I have som Get-Well-Soon Vibes, please??? It hurts my heart to see her like this. Her coat was looking so good, too, and now she looks really bad... and you can just tell she doesn't feel well :(

I am so sorry Maddie. Get that nasty stuff out of your system vibes from us and prayes for a speedy heal. Is there anything that would help clean it out of her?

I was trying to brainstorm with the vet, but we didn't come up with much., other than "time". Oh, other than prednisone :( (which we're avoiding)

Poor Maddie :(

Thats not yummy Maddie-why? :p I hope there were at least some tootsie rolls attached!

Sending good thoughts her way! fourth of July weekend is not a bad one for a dog to be knocked out with benadryl anyway.

Awwww...poor girl. Would a soda bath help soothe her? Benadryl is good stuff and yeah, if there are fire crackers going off near you, that should help keep her calmed down. Hopefully, she won't need prednisone. That stuff, while good in so many ways, is also hard on the liver. Vibes being sent that she gets over the itchiness and her scabs heal soon.

Thanks Everyone. It really sucks to see your baby like this... but she is feeling a little bit better :) She wanted to go for a walk, so I waited until it cooled down and took her and of course that always seems to help us both ;)

I asked her the same thing!WHYMADDIEWHY?? I really have no clue - no 'tootsie rolls' - the bag has sat under the ferret cage ever since I moved back in Nov... dunno what possessed her to do it

And... Maddie's the ONE dog who is totally unfazed by fireworks.... go figure...
considering MASSIVE amounts for a couple other dogs... heh heh... just kidding (mostly)

Have you considered a thorough detox? Probiotics, VERY limited diet, lots of water?

Exactly why we want to avoid the pred, since she's on all the other stuff already. She has a medicated shampoo, but I wonder if that would help better? Hmm....

Thank you all :) She seems to be feeling much better this morning, back to her normal (much more active) self! She's still got the scabies, of course, but they're not bothering her AS much. Hopefully some will come off in the bath and she will feel EVEN better!! ;)
She really wants to go with us to the beach, but I just don't think its worth the risk :( Sorry Maddie! :(

:( I could really, really use some more chaz vibes for Maddie...

She (of course) got a secondary infection from the reaction & all the scratching and everything. Both the vet and myself had expected this, I had medicine on hand and another medicated shampoo to use... But, its getting progressively worse, and fast. It feels like practically overnight :( She's been extra extra itchy, but no new bumps... She got a bath last night. BIG red flag #1 she did not finish her whole dinner after. She left a few pieces in the bottom of the bowl. This is a dog who would eat an elephant in garbage. And this morning when I woke up, under her legs & belly are very (almost completely) raw :( :( And she hardly ate half of her breakfast  HUGE RED FLAG (#2)... we are heading to the vet in a little bit, she has an appt at 4. I'm sure the pred is unavoidable at this point... she's just an soooo much medication right now, I am going to talk it over with the vet. I feel like something is just not right, she should not be getting worse and worse with all the medication she is on - unless it's the wrong medication, or something else, worse :(

I am ready to be medicated as well
