Today at our training facility we had a mock obed trial. We ran the malinois through their CD twice, first time naked with no corrections to evaluate where we're standing and the second time to clean up.

It was very nice because the second run was held by an actual akc judge and I learned there are several things I need to work on with my body. My dog is almost there but I need to stop fidgeting and trying to help my dog when he should be expected to do things on a verbal.

All photos are from the second runs, our first and second runs were video'd but I don't have any of those in my possession yet.

First, Denis and Sloan

Stand for exam, Sloan does not like being touched by strangers, she held very well though. :)

Much happier without the Judge groping her.

Heeling off lead

Oh! Hai camera DAD! lol

Fast

Sit

Here!

Reward = beloved Cuz and dad scratches

Over all they did very well. :) Denis needs to work on halts, fronts, and his speed changes aren't notable enough but mostly all passable. I need to work on my halts big time, I'm totally confusing my dog by stuttering and stopping unevenly, I also need to work on not cueing my dog with my hands (supposedly I patted my thighs) in my recall and my shoulders in my finish. Otherwise we're really thankful for this event and had a blast!

I like Backup's stand for exam :D

Bates will reluctantly hold his stay, (with major butt wiggling tail wags because OMGsomeoneiscomingtopetme!!!!) but he gets back at me by always finding a way to lick the "judge" for stand for exam. He's suck a dork.

Poor Sloan lol she looks like the world is ending when the judge is touching her haha. The squish picture is adorable too :)

Just a question, is there some kind of penalty if the dog starts wagging and getting really excited during the examining by the judge part?

Edit: I mean getting excited by wagging and wiggling but still pretty much holding in place? No jumping or anything like that.

Very nice!! Riley's fronts are majorly crooked half the time too - his body is so long he forgets where his butt is I think.

Stand for exam can be very tricky :D Kaiden's first correction match (CKC) he lept up and licked the judge on the lips when he bent over LOL! Dekka's instinct was to get out of the person's way when they bent over. She looks so sad during her SFE.

I like the intense 'sit' pic.

Thanks! I've not competed in AKC obed and we started training it by just reading the rule book so having an actual judge and a trainer watch our performance and give us tips of what helps and hurts in the ring was super helpfu. Like "return to heel" after the stand for exam, we didn't know you had to start in a standing heel and return in a standing heel, it confused us in the rule book because coming from schutzhund heel means the dog is sitting at your pant seam if you're not walking.

Anyway, for the next 2 weeks I'm taping my hands to my sides and wearing a back brace. LOL

As for the stand for exam if the dog doesn't move their feet from the exact spot you left them they can wiggle all they want I believe but most dogs don't. I'm not positive how many points you lose when your dog moves a step but you lose a lot of points if you don't start/leave the right spot and go exactly 6 feet away, supposedly they'll knock you for going 4 feet or 8 feet.

Yes in CKC you do stand for exam on leash so you only go to the end of your 6 foot leash. Having non CKC dogs I did NAMBR obedience which is like the AKC obed in that the SFE is off leash. Ads more things to think about.

For the stand for exam, it's a point per paw. Luce wiggles and wags like crazy. SFE is very hard for her. She did manage to get a tongue on the last judge LOL
