Love that one! I need to work on black animals more - they can be so tricky to nail in terms of proper highlighting. You did a great job. :)

Thanks! I have more issues with white animals to be honest. I mess up shading them all the time.

I can't decide if I want to tighten up that pic or just leave it pretty sketchy. I got pretty much reamed at the charcoal workshop for being so rough and all over the place with my strokes. (The guy doing the workshop does strict photorealism). But I kind of like the more impressionist/painterly kind of feel. To me charcoal is meant to be a little bit more expressive than strict graphite.

I was told that I could add in my own 'style' once I got down the technique to do everything super realistic. Meh... I'm not sure I agree with that.

I figure your style is just not going to please everyone in the world. :p

Honestly I like the rougher impressionist style. I do impressionist when I paint.I also say screw the paintbrush and just use my hands xD

I also got in trouble for having charcoal and paint literally all the way up my arm from my pinky finger to my shoulder AND on my face. lol

'If you're doing this right, there should be no paint that isn't on your canvas' (same guy did oil painting too)

Where's the fun in traditional media if you DON'T end up with paint everywhere? lol

Oh, speaking of, I did my very first oil painting too a few weeks ago. I guess I should post it here. It's boring as hell, LOL. (Yay painting vases....)

Me too! But that's half the fun! :D

2/5 dogs for the commission for Mer. Will fix tail on dog on the left and shading on muzzle/leg on right dog.

Here's a 90 minute done-while-watching-glee two weeks ago pic. I dont know why I never posted it. I may finish it out, I'm not sure. Right now it's really rough.

So yeah... I got a bajillion things started and need to finish a few of them soon. :p

I think my order will be:

- commission for Mer + commissions for Ada
- mom's portrait
- horse (which haven't touched)
- lion
- Zuko (XD)
- papillon and sheltie?

I think. :p
absolutely love this!

Aw thanks! I didn't know exactly what to do for the preliminary sketch for him since I don't really sketch out the charcoals first. lol I was stuck in a car a while so I brought him with me (couldn't bring the paintings of course) and he's coming along well (and quickly! I'm surprised at how fast this is going, this is only about an hour and a half or so in)

Also, can I rant a second? I went to Hobby Lobby because I broke my biggest vine charcoal. I usually buy on dickblick but I needed some now so I dropped by there. The stupid cashier lady pretty much threw the charcoal AND my HB charcoal pencils into the bag. Yeah I really want my new charcoal broken before I even leave the store. O__O

There are so many breakable things in there, you'd think she'd be a little more careful!! How annoying. Did she break your charcoal?

Thanks! I speed drew that so it's coming along pretty well, I think. I fixed the top of his head now. Will have to get a new pic.
