Just learned of a pending bill in Illinois.

Here is the text of the bill:
Illinois General Assembly - Full Text of HB1166

Here is a blog talking about the bill:
Animal hoarding: It’s time we showed compassion to animal and human victims | www.NoPitBullBans.com

I have six animals (two cats, two dogs, two guinea pigs), so I am one animal short of being a hoarder according to this lawmaker! How about you?

I think Chazzers in Illinois should make sure this law doesn't pass! You can have more than 7 animals, but you would need a permit according to this. Its a state-wide pet limit law! Not cool!

omg, we have 6 here and it feels like a pretty small group considering there are 3 of us looking after them.

That's crazy!

There's currently 6 animals in our house (4 dogs 2 cats) and that seems like nothing. We're about to get a dozen or so chickens, too, so that would put us WAY over limit.

What about fish, do they count? If so I was a hoarder even when I was living in the dorms!

Uh-oh, we're hoarders. Four cats, two dogs, and two horses.

And my friend better just go ahead and turn herself in for animal cruelty. She has six dogs, three cats, a leopard gecko, about 20 cows (they're all pets, not for meat, so I guess they count), seven horses, and a donkey. THE HORROR!

Is this something that out of state letters would help or hurt?

Hmmm... just my cornsnakes alone make me a hoarder. I have seven of those! (Nine if you count the two I have on loan this season...)

Add those in to the dog, two cats, and four sugar gliders... well, I guess we're just a mess!

I don't think letters or calls from out of state will help as much as in state, but I don't think they will hurt. You can always point out how you'll obviously never move to the state if it passes and you will think twice before doing business in the state.

Pat Verschoore is the one who filed the bill and has gotten a LOT of calls. A few weeks ago he said from all the feedback he's gotten he doesn't want to call the bill anymore. It's still on the agenda though and every time the move the meetings it stays right on the agenda, so who knows.

Meh, not really a big deal to me...

I'm not trying to be an a-hole, but this is EXACTLY the type of apathetic attitude that is allowing the nutjob H$U$/PETA agenda to keep creeping on along, and robbing responsible pet owners of their rights.
