Since some of us had some trouble last week with all of the perfect dogs on Chaz who can do no wrong :)p) I decided to make this week's theme a little more wide open. The dog's don't have to be doing anything in particular, but they can still be super creative!

So let's see some black and white dogs!! (and for those of you with Border Collie's, the whole picture has to be in black and white, not just the dog! :lol-sign:)

This week's challenge will end on Friday, January 14th!!

Happy Shooting!!

Great theme! I encourage everyone to really focus on the darks/lights and composition of their photos. Black & White is really challenging to nail well. :)

Yes! This shouldn't just be taking a picture and making it black and white! LOL or at least it's not going to be for me.

so....a picture of Baxter out in the snow counts, right? LOL!

Is there a way to TAKE a picture in black and white on today's cameras? I didn't even know that. :yikes:

ETA: I don't think the d40 does that. :(

Most digital cameras have a B&W setting, you just have to look around a bit :)

For the D40, go to Menu > Shooting Menu > Optimize Image > Black-and-white

For the Canon Rebel series, the Monochrome setting can be set by going to your Picture Style menu and selecting Monochrome.

The Picture Style menu can be found by finding the button with an icon that looks like a little sun with one black notch. Alternately, it should be in one of your menus as "picture" or "picture style".

I'm hoping I can edit mine to be black and white after taking it. My crappy little P&S has a black and white setting, but it makes the pictures suck. Badly.

Once my camera is charged, I'll search for the function, but I think I'll have to switch it on Photobucket
