Puppy food, how long?

OK, so Ophie and Luke are over 9 months old now (by a week or so), and I was wondering how much longer I really need to feed them puppy food?

I don't see a problem with starting to switch them to a good all life stages food now, Becca.

I switched Quinn at about 4 months, she eats mainly raw anyway so it wasn't really that different.

I usually tell folks to start switching off puppy food at 9-10 months.

So, you guys think their bones are probably done growing, and they'll probably just fill out, muscle-wise, from now on?

I'm wondering...Think it would be ok to feed them a pre-made raw and a home-made raw alternating diet?

I'd kind of like to feed them raw, but I cannot afford freezer space to feed them home-made raw all the time, but to feed a pre-made all the time would get tooooo expensive.

I'm not too familiar with pre-made raw since I feed PMR. I feel mixing them would cause a lot of digestive upsets. Do you have room to get a second freezer? If you do you could find them on craigslist cheap.

That would be fine. A lot of people don't have the freezer space for full homemade or the cash for a full pre-made. It's all essentially the same stuff anyways so there's not been a problem reported from my clients.

Ditto this. I feed homemade raw almost all of the time, but I feed pre-mades from time to time in emergencies. I've never had a problem switching back and forth between the two. The only thing that MIGHT be a consideration is the kind of pre-made you feed. Barfworld, for instance, has a pretty high vegetable content. I think that might upset my dogs' stomachs a bit, but I don't know. I've fed Primal and Vital Essentials with no problem at all.

I think if I feed pre-made raw, I'm going to go with Stella and Chewy's. I LOVE their customer service, and their products are outstanding, imo.
The only issue is, Ophie got a tad constipated on it, BUT! I only had her on it a few days.

I don't know. I have a lot to think about.
They're doing so good on the Fromm's right now, and I think I shall wait until after winter to switch them.

I don't want to feed complete home made raw because I do not trust myself to make it balanced for them. I tried it with Ella, and she didn't do so well on it. It was hard to keep weight on her, and she lost hair.

I do raw.. I don't call it home made cause I don't feel like I make anything. (I just toss them animal parts lol)

That said you are fine if you want to feed what you make and premade. IME even dogs that are a bit sensitive to kibble changes do fine with switchin up raw. Esp if you feed a variety of protein sources.

If they get constipated, add a little of the canned pumpkin to their meal. It works for that as well as the runs

I mix pre-made and prey model raw all of the time... with no issues. If Stella & Chewy's is too boney for Ophie, just add some muscle meat to her meals. It would be much cheaper to supplement the pre-made with raw meaty bones anyway. I like Stella & Chewy's most of all, too!
