Doing Business on a Leash

Lincoln has lost his off-leash privileges but he won't go #2 while on a leash. This morning I was out there for a long time with no success.

How do you get a dog to do #2 on a leash?

Lucy won't go unless we walk her. I think she actually does need to be in motion for a bit to get things moving...

I was out there for about 45mins. Unfortunatley I don't have unlimited time in the mornings.

My dog never had a problem until this week. I got really cold & I think the wind was blowing up his but or something. At home he usually goes and hides behind a bush.

Totally understand...I generally walk Lucy around the block in the morning, and if she goes, great. If not, she gets another walk or trip to the dog park as soon as my husband gets home, and she can go then. There are some mornings she just doesn't have to go.

I would love to know this also. I have owned Argon for over two years, and he has pooped a grand total of once on a leash. He would rather clamp himself shut until he hurts himself (he once went three days before the vet had to get in there and fix it! :yikes: ), then poop on a leash in my presence. Let me tell you, it gets really, really old to have to take him to the dog park or daycare just to get him to poop. Argon has no offleash privledges, because he has no recall.

Even if he gets a laxative that forces him to go on leash, and we only do that with the vets ok after he's refused to go for a day or two, he won't do it next time, despite tons of praise and treats.

Will he go on a retractable/long leash?
I don't know the exact reasoning for him having to be on leash but could you put him on a tie out and walk a decent distance away?

He's not allowed off-leash anymore because he keeps taking off to the neighbours house. Other times I have seem him coming from the other side too. I live out in the country and the last thing I want is they either 1) shoot him or 2) call animal control.
It's been progressively getting worse with his wandering tactics and i've had enough of it.

Xena has never had off leash privs for when we're out to do her business. She does this "poopie dance" that is quite irritating, though. Not just the normal "spin around a bit until the right spot comes up" but she'll sniff, low walk like she's getting ready to squat, stand up again, walk a little more, start to squat again, get distracted by something, go back to the squat. Then when "the place" is finally chosen, she'll bounce her legs back and forth, up and down for like another 4 hours until she finally gets set exactly comfortable so she can crap.

It's not quite as elaborate, but she has a similar method of finding the right spot to pee

One thing I forgot to say - I've found that when the dance is getting too elaborate, I can stiffen the leash a bit and she'll shorten the area she's sniffing in. It's almost like her dance is an attempt to "expand her territory" and when I "give" on the leash, she's won and then starts trying to expand it again. When her boundaries become firm, she goes, effectively marking her territory.

At least that's the way I perceive it. It could just be that she's a brat.
