Anyone ever tried their perfume oils?
Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Perfume Oils: Welcome to the Lab

Now, I'm a recent convert to perfume oils vs. chemical sprays and the like. Oils are just so fascinating. The smell in the vial is only a taste of what it may smell when it;s wet on your skin, and then a whole other scent when dry. The combination of body chemistry makes oils smell different on every person, too.

In Virginia, my sister had a handful of Imp's Ears (little 1/32ml sample vials you can order in packs from BPAL) that we all passed around and tried, and it was delightful. Some smelled bad on me, but delicious on Nolu, for instance (I may have nibbled her arm more than once). They also combined beautifully with Pure Instinct, my everyday perfume oil from Passion Parties.

One oil (Mary Read) made my sister smell like a root beer bottling plant, but made me smell like a mixture of patchouli and gunpowder. (I bought that one from her). My current favorite is White Rabbit - a strange sweet scent combined with the scent of crisp linen. I also bought that Imp from my sister, and will probably buy a 5ml bottle of it.

I'm currently trying to make an order for six imp's ears, and I'm having a terrible time narrowing the list to six!

I figured I'd share, for anyone interested in perfume oils. This place is incredible, though it may break my bank! If anyone's interested, I will share my shortlist of Imp wants. :D

"And then afterwards, I'll show you some etchings. Maybe even my family jewels." :rofl1:

I love playing around with perfume oils. I much prefer the subtle aspect of those versus the "OMG CHOKE" of many commercial chemical-based sprays.

hah, I should have forewarned. The website is ridiculous to follow at first. And SO many different collections... see my dilemma in choosing six? Also, gummy bears? AWESOME.

Shortlist... it's not very short, and I've added the descriptions so you guys don't have to hunt for the scents in the list. Sorry for length!

SIREN
Bewitching, tantalizing and dangerously seductive. A thrilling, exotic blend -- deceptively sweet, but spiked with malice. White ginger, jasmine, and a touch of vanilla and apricot.

DRAGON'S MILK
A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla.

SCREECHING PARROT
Golden rum, apricot liquor, pineapple, pomegranate, ginger, brandy, grapefruit, and pink lime.

BLACK PEARL
Evocative of the sea's unplumbed mysteries. Gentle and lovely, but menacing and profound. Coconut, Florentine iris, hazelnut and opalescent white musk.

CHIMERA
The fiery, volatile scent of cinnamon, thickened by myrrh, honeysuckle, and copal.

*JACK
The scent of warm, glowing jack o'lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove.

NAMASTE
This oil blend is a serene, soothing Indian blend, created to bring calm and joy to the heart and peace to the spirit. Sandalwood, jasmine, rose, patchouli, cedarwood and lemongrass.

*PLUNDER
The scent of a pirate's bumboat, overflowing with stolen wares: tea leaf, cassia, cinnamon bark, clove, allspice, sandalwood, tobacco, peppercorn, and nutmeg.

HELLCAT
A soft, sensual, luxuriant blend with a wicked bite: hazelnut, buttercream, honey mead, rum and sweet almond.

TITANIA
A nocturnal bounty of fae dew-kissed petals and pale fruits: white grape, white peach, iced pear, musk rose, sweet pea, moonflower and snapdragon.

*THE DORMOUSE
A dizzying eddy of four teas brushed with light herbs and a breath of peony.

EAT ME
Three white cakes, vanilla, and red and black currants.

JABBERWOCKY
An earthy yet buoyant scent: pine, eucalyptus and orange.

*THE LION
The dry, glorious warmth of the Savannah. A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious.

VERITAS
The essence of honesty, integrity, and veracity: frankincense, white carnation, angelica, chamomile, and heliotrope.

*MISKATONIC UNIVERSITY

The scent of Irish coffee, dusty tomes and polished oakwood halls.

SHOGGOTH
An amorphous, radiant, incandescent scent. Ever changing, protoplasmic and primordial: white amber, green coconut meat, iris, palmarosa, Chinese peony, lime, water lily, snowdrop, muguet, lemongrass, osmanthus, wisteria, glassy musk, and hinoki.

WRATH
A scent aflame with rage, swirling in the red haze of hatred: dragon's blood spiked with black pepper, clove, and cinnamon.

*GALVANIC GOGGLES
Metallic notes with Indian musk, tobacco flower, and African balsam.

THE ROBOTIC SCARAB
Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils.

*GLASGOW
The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather.

KYOTO
A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise.

PORT-AU-PRINCE
Dark, decadent and incomparably exotic: the rich scent of buttered rum flavored with almond, bay, clove and sassafras.

----------------

I starred the ones that I'm particularly interested in after reading the reviews on the BPAL forums. Jack and Miskatonic University are definites.

Dang, those sound yummy. (Or...smelly, more like. ^_^) I might just ask for some samples for Christmas. I've had a hard time finding a perfume that I like, and those oils sound very intriguing.

Okay. Chimera, Siren and Dragon's Milk.

I've always loved essential oils. One of my favorite ways to use them is to get a bottle of unscented skin oil and add ylang ylang, rose and bergamot.

I'm such a sucker for sweet/fruity scents and wintery spice scents (nutmeg, clove, ginger etc) so I went outside my comfort zone and chose a bunch of oils that sound intriguing, but frighten me a little. :D

I'm on the fence between Dragon's Milk and Wrath, since they have the same base nose. Chimera received pretty poor reviews from other BPAL nerds, but I'm so very intrigued still. Siren, eh? Hmmm. Shall Ponder.

Thanks for the input. :)

You are welcome to repeat that at any time. ;) This is Saurus btw.

I'm ordering some when I have money. The Lust smells AMAZING when combined with Pure Instinct. Oh. My. God. I want to chew my own arm off. It's so sexy and delicious. I wore it today and couldn't stop sniffing my wrists, and when my friends asked me what the deal was, I just let them smell for themselves. It just smells gross in the container, though.

I'm going to see if I can just add in my stuff to Rachyl's next order. I want some of the antikythera mechanism (on the steampunk page if anyone wants to look - this one smelled fabulous on everyone) and another imp of the Lust. And some Smokestack and Inferno (cinnamon and almond - om nom nom!).

. . . I'm an addict.

It all smells so much better with the Pure Instinct added to the mix, though. It's amazing.

Dragon's Milk, The Lion, Miskatonic University and Glasgow.

This sounds like a drink I want to try: SCREECHING PARROT
Golden rum, apricot liquor, pineapple, pomegranate, ginger, brandy, grapefruit, and pink lime.

So, figured I'd bump because I've made my decision, and the order is going in today. :)

I'm getting:

DRAGON'S MILK
A truly fae nectar! Dragon's blood resin and honeyed vanilla.

JACK
The scent of warm, glowing jack o'lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove.

THE LION
The dry, glorious warmth of the Savannah. A golden, spiced amber, proud, regal and ferocious.

MISKATONIC UNIVERSITY
The scent of Irish coffee, dusty tomes and polished oakwood halls.

GALVANIC GOGGLES
Metallic notes with Indian musk, tobacco flower, and African balsam.

GLASGOW
The rich scent of wild blackberry breezing over gentle rosy heather.

-----------

It was VERY hard to choose six, and I'm keeping this list so I can add to it and place another order in a few months. My sister also just placed an order for six new imps, and she'll be bringing them when she visits in February so we can skin-test each other's. I tried to go for a good variety between the six; also, because BPAL is awesome, they send 1-2 random imps from their collection with every order, so I may get a pleasant surprise!

Now the final question... do I want a 5ml bottle of White Rabbit? I do love it, a lot.

those sounds so interesting. I want some! I still really need to buy me a bottle of pure instinct from PP though. I had a bad experience though when I borrowed a bad batch of it from Nolu and it smelled bad... but I tried it from a different bottle and it smelled fabulous on me

I love Pure Instinct even more now that I see how well it blends with the BPAL oils. I've used Pure Instinct with chemical perfume sprays with success, but the oils give a whole new level of incredible. I sampled Pure Instinct with a number of the BPAL scents with huge success. I imagine it won't go well with ALL of them, but still!

Also, ORDER PLACED. I said screw it and got the 5ml bottle of White Rabbit. :) Orders take a few weeks to blend and ship out, but I will update you all when they arrive and have been sampled!

If any of you order, please let me know! I'd love to know what appealed to you.

Fran... Imp's Ears are the testers. :) They're TINY vials. Good for a few weeks of wear, if that. They charge for the samples because they are handblended. $4.00 is a lot better than $17.50 for a 5ml if I don't like the scent, and I have friends on standby who are happy to sniff and possibly purchase imps I'm not fond of. :)

If I really like a scent, I'll get a 5ml bottle.
