I was looking at evil Craigslist and came across an ad for a Chinese sharpei and in the description said the eyes had been tacked? What does that even mean?

There are various procedures, but generally it's essentially an eye lift. Likely the heavy wrinkles were causing the eyelids to roll in and irritate the eyes.

Is it the same thing as an entropion surgery? Or different?

If I'm not mistaken, with surgery for eye tacking (which is done in puppies) they just suture the eyelids (vs removing bits of skin as is done for entropion) for a few weeks. Sometimes it's done a few times. I think it's done until they either grow into their wrinkles or, if it doesn't correct, can have entropion surgery.

I haven't heard of it being done on puppies before, but I guess it makes sense.

On to the original question- if this is an adult dog, I'd assume it had already had entropion and the surgery was done to "cure" it. Either way, yes, my understanding is the "eye tacking" is the surgery for entropion.

I've seen/heard of it in Shar Pei puppies. It's a temporary thing, though ... can't imagine they're still sutured at 3 months!

Yes, its either sutures or staples that are placed under the eye to pull the loose rolling skin down. They can stay in for weeks or months until the dog grows into his face ;), or it really isnt working. At that time true entropion surgery in performed. Tacking is a temporary fix to see if the puppy will grow out of the rolling if given time.

Yup, sutures or staples temporarily in place until they grow into their wrinkles. We've had a sharpei breeder bring a couple pups in for tacking. Generally it has to be done multiple times because they pull them out. Real entropion surgery on a pup is useless because they're still growing.
