Sometime between this morning's feeding and checking on her about half an hour ago, she dropped her tail.

Nothing bothers her and she's alone, so I assume it simply got stuck on a branch and she instinctively lost it.

To non-crested gecko folks, no, she won't grow it back, but it's normal for many cresteds to lose their tails in their lifetimes. Right now the stub is a bit raw so I'm leaving her alone for a few days to allow healing. Her terrarium recently got gutted and cleaned so I'm sure it will heal very well.

Stumpy herself:

The tail as I found it in the viv. Given the placement, I thought she was attached to it. Imagine my surprise when I realized it was just the tail! I then looked up and noticed Stumpy on the glass.

I'll have gecko feeding pics later. This just caught me by surprise.

I think I would have freaked right out. LOL Defiantly not something you expect to see when going to take care of your pet.

I LOVE Crested Geckos (second only to Gargs), and your is sooo cute!!

I hope she heals up quick, and you really need to post pics of your zoo more often. I don't think I've ever seen pics of Yuffie :nono:

GASP

I'll try and get some new pics of her soon! She's in our dining room, which has very dim light, so I have to wait for sun to come in the patio door for good pics of her (her play area is our bathroom, which sucks even more for lighting).

Well, I researched a ton about cresties before getting one, so I knew she would probably drop it eventually, and that if/when she did, it's safe and normal. It just caught me off guard because I don't know what prompted it!

She was climbing about, looking a bit put off by missing her jumping rudder. Got two better photos.

Stumpy.

Close-up of stump. It's already mostly closed up, just a few little spots where blood is dribbling a little.
