Thought this would be fun ;)

Not just dogs, but all pets.

Mine is:

4 dogs
4 cats
1 horse
2 bettas
1 larger community tank (small things like tetras and the like)
1 cichlid tank
2 ferrets
3 rats
and 1 tegu.

I'm waiting until next year for the rats and the tegu. It'll be a while before I get ferrets, probably.

1 dog.

We both work full time, I take grad school classes on the weekends, we both do volunteer work, are involved in church activities, and my husband is on multiple sports teams. We do not have time or energy for another critter.

In between semesters I've fostered a second dog, but it always overwhelms me so much I am grateful to go back to being a one dog house. When we first got Lucy, we had a hamster too--but even that was tough. It was hard for him to get attention and exercise without Lucy trying to eat him.

2-5 dogs is pretty much my limit on what I can manage to take care of reasonably. I also have 2 horses but they stay in Arizona with my mom since we move so much and end up living in town. They're both old (one turned 23 in August and the other was probably a good 12-15 when I got him in 2002) and pretty much retired anyway, so they have the good life being out to pasture.

Ooooh, you have a third dog now?! Did I miss something?

My limit depends on the size/breed of the dogs. I could have 5 chihuahuas easily, but I couldn't imagine having 5 Border Collies or 5 Dobermans.

Right now I'm comfortable with 5 dogs... seems like a good limit to me.

3 dogs, given the size of them lol. I can handle 4 if we need to dog sit or something, but only 3 permanent residents.

Aside from the dogs I can handle some fish and the occasional transient butterfly, a gecko or two, and maybe a parrot. Note, I have none of the above except one fish. The butterfly hatched and is away in the wide world now.

Not sure on the limit of dogs, as I have only ever had one... but I think I could handle another 2 or 3, guess it depends on the dog itself.
For ferrets, I am quite happy with 3. I always say I want more, but realistically, I think 3 is a good number for me, at least for right now. Now, fostering would be different, as I would not be responsible for vet bills and such, but for permanents? Three is a good number.
I could also add geckos, fish, birds, small pets if I wanted to, want to eventually add hermit crabs, but that may have to wait a while until I move out.

I'm not really sure... honestly depends where I lived. In this house, I wouldn't want to have to look after anything more than another cat or two.

If I had fenced acreage with a barn, I wouldn't mind having more dogs and even more cats (and livestock), and if I personally owned a house and it wasn't... like this, and was all tile and hardwood with a big utility room or something, then I might get rats again. At some point in my life I'd like to have boas, argus monitors and parrots (as well as outdoor animals) but just not now.

PS Pickle, what kind of tegu?

For us we've imposed a limit of 4 animals total; before we lost Maggie we had 3 dogs and a cat, now we're down to just 2 dogs (and the cat), but currently have a foster.

Once the pain of losing Maggie subsides, we'll be looking to add a 3rd permanent dog and when the 3rd dog arrives, we will hold off on fostering until everyone is settled and trained again. Fosters generally don't count against the household total.

2 dogs (small (chihuahua) to medium sized (labrador) )
I like having one but I sometimes feel a little sad that Romeo doesn't have a doggy brother/sister.. and I wonder if he would be happier.

2 cats

or MAYBE... 2 small birds (either 2 canary or budgie or finch) depending on size of home and noise level.

always will be my LIMIT lol I like how even it is, I like how everyone has a buddy and I just like 2 as a number.

I don't like having too many animals in the house... it makes me feel anxious like I can't watch all of them and they are all off dirtying things lol plus I like how much individual attention each animal gets from me.

Everyone has a friend, everyone has their own space, and its a small enough number for me to personally manage, afford and spend time with and be comfortable with in a home.

Xandra-

An Argentine Black and White. From what I've found out, they're the most personable, which is something I really like in a pet.

Such a hard question :lol-sign:

For dogs, I can't imagine ever having more than 3 at one time, or more than 2 that I am competing/training/being really active with. A lot of this is dependent on how involved Ryan wants to be (in the future), if he wants to train and compete than two would be fine, but by myself I think that one would be enough.

Right now if I lightened my load of helping training, clubs, volunteer work, etc. then I could probably handle another dog, but I don't really want to and so I am not really looking at getting another dog in the near future (the exception of course is the dog I posted about).

Plus it just *really* depends on the individual dogs as well. I can't even imagine having two Frodo's, but I could have 6 Mollie's and lead an easy life :p

Adding other animals I could add reptiles without much of a problem, should I ever want to. Though if I end up getting a rat or ferret, then the second dog would be put off probably until I go back to MN.

So yeah, hard hard question!

It depends on a lot. If I lived out in the country (like where my dad is moving) I'd have a whole SLEW of dogs. 5 papillons is a breeze, even with a Mia. I could see having 5 or so paps and a couple bigger dogs if I had the space. I've had 6 dogs before that were almost completely my sole responsibility and it was just fine.

All in all my immediate family has.... 5 dogs (7 if you count justin's two dachshunds but they moved away recently), 3 tennessee walkers, 1 cat, 1 chinchilla, and fish. Only two dogs, the chinchilla, and the fish are mine though. I love the horses but they are so expensive and time consuming and fragile. I'll leave the horse tending to Rhonda, Josie, and Jamie. I think my family is made of animal people. ;)

BUT right now I'm in an apartment which sets limits for me. If I could find a place to allow a third dog, I'd love to add one, but as of now 2 dogs is my limit. If I still live in the city when I get a house I think 3 dogs and a bigger fish tank will be more than enough.

I don't want any pets other than dogs and fish in the future at this point. I really don't want any more caged animals because it's just kind of a pain at times.

One dog, one cat, two horses but only if the one is retired and that's in an ideal situation. That's all I have an interest in having. Currently, in my family unit we have one dog, three horses and two cats. Bandit is really happy as an only dog, the cats get along well enough and even though two of the horses are rideable and one is fully retired, but the one horse is 32 so she isn't in full work. Which works for us. But if I didn't have help I'd probably only want one dog right now and possibly a cat.

Two dogs is ideal for me. With three, there's often somebody who gets left out of things no matter how much we try to make it equal, and four is a lot of work (I found anyway). I can do three or four without a problem, but I just find two to be an easy, perfect number and is my preference. But, that also could be just because I happen to have three very young dogs at once. Maybe three or four would be easier if my crew were split up in age a little better... and if I had a larger house (our current house is pretty small). More land instead of the little yard we have now would make a difference as well.

Well lets see...
Two dogs are what we have now. I have room for one more , ( city only allows three animals in city limits these counts dogs and cats) But unless I find the PERFECT third dog I keep that spot open for an emergency foster at the shelter.
I have 2 ferrets and will be having that number jump to 7 in a few weeks as I will be homing 5 from an over run shelter in ILL. ( 10 is my max on that one as I had in holland) They do have there own room here so free roaming is an option for me)

I would someday love to have a large fish tank but untill we are done renovating its not going to happen.
That pretty much all for me, Im not really big on other small caged animals.

Since I don't know what my financial and house situation will be when I am able to get a dog these numbers are just a guess.

I don't want more than 2 dogs plus a foster dog, might just have one of my own idk.
3 cats would be my maximum.
I could see myself with like 2 "clans" of gerbils, 3 at the most (females i'd have pairs, males pairs or triples, but 2 or 3 tanks) but I could also see myself with just one pair.
I don't have a hermit crab limit, whatever will fit in whatever tank I have. I probably won't go bigger than a 75 gallon tank.

I might get some other rodent too, we'll see. Probably won't do fish again and I will not do reptiles again.
