In a new record petfinder fail, I can't find a big dog. The kind that are all over the shelters? Anyone down south want to trade a Chi for a 70lb + Lab- GSD- Malamute type?

I want a bigger backpacking, skijor/rollerjor dog that retrieves and swims (Buster has trouble in deeper snow and wont swim...) SO wants a friendly dog that she can teach tricks to, jog with, and that wont eat her cat.

Seems most of the big dogs are either 6+ years old, try to eat cats (there is now a cat to consider) or mixed with pit or mastiff. *I currently don't have any breed restrictions, but renting in a place with them isn't entirely ruled out. A big dog is enough of a problem without it terrifying the insurance company.

If I type "Pointer" in, there are SIX within 100 miles of Portland, OR.

We have gazillions here. Type in zip 22304, I'll spring whomever you want from the shelter and bring get the transport going.

Are you in NJ (like your location says) or OR?

If you find something in CaliTerp's region, and they needed a transport I'm sure we could do it.

If you want to transport from the south to the north east check out the rates from this company.

P.E.T.S. LLC - Animal Rescue Road Trips

The states they list are the drop off points. IE Alabama to the New England area is $125.00 which seems really reasonable to me. I do hope that your not serious about giving up your CHI though but if you are I might be interested in a play mate for Lola and she loves CHI's.

None of these do it for you?

I think Psyfalcon was saying that there are plenty of chi's for adoption where they are, but no big dogs. It tends to be the opposite in the south.

Good transport site! I'm going to have to book that one! $125 is a steal compared to organizing a dozen people!

I found out about that transport company from the show "Last Chance Highway" and did a Google search after the first episode on the transport company. I think how they are able to offer such a reasonable rate is that they have 3-4 trucks running and when they are transporting, which is every week they transport a few hundred dogs at a time with their fleet. the dogs are well taken car of in transport and in watching the show I seen AC units on the roof of the trailers so they are not being transported in excessive heat. I'm sure that the AC units are also used for heating in the winter as the RV AC unit's are fitted with heaters in addition to cooling.

It looks like they do very specific routes to keep prices down. The closest place to me they would pick up an animal is still ~75 miles away. Makes sense--they keep to the main arteries.

If you are in Portland, which I think you are, I remember your posts, I will be doing a lot of road tripping from mid August to early Fall, I would happily transport for you with no charge! I will solidly be going from OR, to WA, to NorCal, to the SW(Arizona/Utah/New Mexico), and quite possibly out east later on, and I need to return to Portland by mid-September/Early October. I know that sounds all over the place, and it's in no certain order, but it's something!
