Just some Mia rambling.

Rhonda was over today to help with some house work. Mia was her usual PITA to Rhonda. She follows her around glaring at her (literally) and then when Rhonda turns to face her starts barking/growling at her. She would side step Rhonda in the hall and give her just the NASTIEST glare. I had Rhonda feed Mia dinner. Mia ate it then started giving Rhonda the most nasty looks again. Rhonda played ball with her. Mia played then would glare at her. It's kind of frustrating but kind of amusing too.

Now the good news is at the end of the day when Rhonda left, Mia let her pet her and gave her a very small lick on the hand. So that's good.

I was just thinking Mia is hands down simultaneously the most frustrating and yet most rewarding dog I've ever owned. She's finally taken to my dad after yes a month of living with him. He's become very smitten with her too and told me he was going to steal her. :D He even said she was really sweet once she decides she likes you- which she definitely is. It just takes her a long time to decide to like someone...

Mia is SO hard to describe in words but she's just not like the other four at all. She's an experience all her own. She's just so not... DOGGY compared to them. She's more like dealing with a child and all the complexities that come along with it. It's like she understands so much more than the others. (Her problem solving skills would seem to confirm this). In ways it's frustrating and yet so rewarding. Summer is so much simpler to understand. Mia has these mood swings and this deviousness to her... Summer is simple and sweet. She greets everyone with that blind, almost stupid trust you'd never see out of Mia.

I guess my point is this: Why is it always the hardest ones that steal your heart so bad? The ones you have to work to open up to you? The ones that are constantly keeping you on your toes and challenging you? And what did I ever do without her? LOL

Have you had 'that' dog? That one that just drove you up the wall and yet was just so amazing?

Yes - Brawt is that dog for me.

He is so difficult but, I don't know what I'd do without him. He is often too smart for his own good, he challenges me, and it probably doesn't help that he is my special needs boy. I often look at him and think, "If someone else owned him (outside of Chazzers) they would have either dumped him or had him PTS (special needs) because of being who he IS." However, I look at him and the word, "blessed" comes to mind.

Sorry for the ramble. :)

Haha if you rambled I don't know what I did. :D

I just love hearing about everyone else's handfuls too. There is really something great about that relationship that comes from having a handful of a dog. ;)

My relationship with Abby sounds similar (yet of course different).

All the frustrations, all the tears... and yet I can't begin to describe how special she is to me.

Seriously, she has her difficult moments, especially for me as a novice owner. But I wouldn't change a thing. Without being too corny about it, I feel that it is only Abby that has taught me and will teach me about being a better dog owner and a better person. I'm sure all my dogs will teach me things too, but...

It is so hard to explain. I'm a little teary...

Thankfully, the other 3 (or 4 in your case) aren't the same way. I think I would run away if I had Brawt times 4. Yikes!

Izzie and i are so close because of the frustrations she causes. She's taught me to step away from things sometimes to find a different approach... Then usually gives me a great big "Eff You" but that's the fun of it!

Lincoln, is my Mia.
Recently again he is starting to show some affection, which I admit he gets extra cuddles and kisses and such, but he's been the only dog that isn't always in-your-face.

He is still as curious as over, and makes me laugh everyday. It's a good thing he's so darn cute!

I just put a photo of Auggie on a shelf in my bedroom and lined up my shot glass collection in front of it, and afterwards, I was saying "It's kind of like a creepy Auggie shrine or something. Including shot glasses. Actually that's... oddly appropriate."

I honestly don't think I'd like him as much as I do if he weren't an enourmous brat. It's so much more fun this way.
I mean, being driven to drinking is totally fun, right?

It can be frustrating at times, but it's just so wonderful to see your dog's personality. As my puupy got older, I saw him develop all of these quirks and habits. I've nicknamed him "the old man" because he's so slow in doing everything, kind of like an old man set in his ways.

Okay. Is it bad that ALL of mine are, in their various ways, like that?

And that all the dogs I've had have been?

I don't think I even know how to think about them as "difficult" or "problems" or "hard." It's just the way they are and that's how I like them. I don't know that I ever want an "easy" dog. :)

I will admit I am slightly worried that my next dog won't be enough of a challenge after Mia. I don't know that I could settle for any less either.

Then go for a Fila, lol . . . you won't be disappointed. The antics will be different, but you'll never be bored :rofl1:

Mia is kinda like having a tiny, hairy APBT with big ears in a lot of ways -- except for the not liking people right away.

^^THIS^^

I did not find Teagan overly hard. Thank God as she was my first dog that I trained and raised on my own. But she also was not easy in anyway. I feel very accomplished by how far we got together with her training and her training me :p

We learned alot from each other. Tyler and I sure learned alot from her.

She just has the most amazing personality and spunk. Well she is a Terrier Terrorist  And I always get so happy and proud when I get praise about how well she is trained or how good she is. Because we got that far together.

Yeah, I agree. Don't get me wrong, Auggie is a little ****. But I like it that way. It's why I'm seeking out another one that is likely to be an even bigger little ****.

Either that or because I'm crazy. Maybe both.

I liken her to a little imp a lot. She's an ornery girl.

Yeah, Lucy is a firecracker. This dog:

  • Opens latched doors
  • Opens cabinets
  • Counter surfs like it's her job
  • Figured out how to open the foot pedal trash cans that latch shut
  • Opened the pantry (and ate all the chocolate chips)
  • Climbs fences
  • Undermines every bit of training I try to teach her (oh the unwanted behavior chains she has...)

But I love her for it. She's such a challenge--I would be so bored with a dog that didn't make me think!

Laur, Ivan is my Mia. I like him that way. Although he could be just slightly less intense at times. BUT the family isn't to fond of him being the way he is. The hubby is afraid to get another dal in fear that it will be just like Ivan.

I'd be happy to settle for less challenge (ie, no fear aggression!) but, Abby is still a challenge in a lot of other ways... :p I have always said I liked to think outside the box and problem solve. She was more than I had bargained for lol. But yes, in the end I realise that I do enjoy the relationship that comes from being challenging. I love her independence and the way I have change my approach and think about what I am doing. I'll admit it used to frustrate me a bit and I used to get frustrated at my inability, but now I thrive on this.
