The Mite Boys.

hahahaha. I took these the other night, and keep forgetting to post them.
I *think* Finn has mites. You know, and this SUCKS because I freeze ALLLL bedding DAYS before I use it.
And that is the ONLY way he could have gotten them (unless I unknowingly bought them in on something). All I know is, I went to hold him the night before last night, and I felt bumpy scabs on him. So, I looked him over, and I couldn't see anything because his fur is still on his body. But I can feel them. And I see what appears to be dry patches behind his ears. I don't know what it is to be honest, but I'm going to treat BOTH boys for mites just in case. It could be a food allergy, but I'm not risking it. So, I'm going to treat for mites with some Iver-on spray. This sucks. But, I guess when mice come from pet shops, this is typical.

Finn will be going to live with my niece as soon as I complete the mite treatment.
Which will be 7 weeks from when I start (I have to wait for the Iver-On to arrive).

It's not because I don't love him.
It's because he loves my niece more.
Seriously.

The bond those two have is craaaazy.
She's 19, btw.
And she lost her rat awhile ago, and she hasn't been able to get any other rodent since. And she came over one night, and I had her hold Finn while I rearranged his cage for, like, 45 minutes, and they fell in love with each other. My niece doesn't bond much with anything, so when it warmed me a bit to see her kissing on Finn and talking to him.
And everytime I talked to her after that she kept asking me when I was going to give her Finn. So, I talked to my husband about it, and I'm going to give her Finn.
She lives about 5 minutes from me (if even), so I told her if she wanted, she could have Finn come stay with her and be her mouse.
I'd supply her with cage, food, and bedding, and she just had to provide him with love.
She told me, "That mouse is going to be my only friend!"
And I told her that he wouldn't but she would be his only friend, so it's important she loves on him FOR AT LEAST half an hour daily.

You are not alone lol. My two new rescue girls each have mites. So I get to go through the constant bedding changes (freezing) and ivermectin treatments. Poor little girls have sores on their faces I have to treat with topical ointment as well. And of course CC's eye.

No fun.......no fun at all!

They're adorable! When my rodents had lice I did two treatments of Revolution. Basically just a drop in between their shoulder blades. Is it possible you have wild mice that could have passed it on? Mites have longish off-host lifespans so they can travel pretty well too.

They are both just too cute, and hope those mites flee!

It is more likely her mice contracted the mites at the pet store. Most pet store mice come home with them. Ivermectin pour on is usually the way to go.

Though I imagine wild mice could pass them on if they were living in the same area in the house as the domestic mice.

It was just a thought. I remember when being on mouse forums that I kept hearing stories about wild mice interacting, breeding and spreading parasites with pet mice.

No, we have NO wild mice anywhere near our home.
If I was at home with my parents, sure, I could see that as they live in front of a HUGE field, and they get field mice all the time and have to set traps.

But we do not have any invasions of wild anything in our house (except for the occasional spider in the basement or silverfish).

I'd LOVE to treat with revolution. But I do not know the dosage for mice.
I *think* I'll get revolution, though, and treat my future rats when they come here, just in case.
But I don't know where to get Revolution except at the vets, and I'm sure it's pretty expensive there.
