Watch with alot of them... They have "Breed Specific Concerns" that they don't cover...

Like when i was looking into it for Izzie several wouldn't cover eyes, neuro, joint problems, stenotic nares, elongated palate, etc. Pug specific stuff.

Greyhounds might have some not covered stuff that you need to make sure you know about in case... Plus he's a senior dog so there's alot they might not cover if you're just taking it out now..

The one that Im looking at has the same coverage for a puppy as a senior. I looked online (they have their policies online) AND called to double check.

Others did what you were talking about or wouldnt cover half what I want covered.

I am busy insuring mine with Petsure. What irritates me is that you have to get add on premiums for routine cover. And routine cover is considered EVERY illness your pet can get. So unless your dog gets hit by a metorite they are not covered. LOL!

I looked at them Barb but they do whats called a Schedule of Benefits and some of the things I have had to do before I have paid more then they alloted. THe other plans I have looked at go up to 2,000 or more regardless.

I'm in Australia, so probably not much help. I insure with Petplan for accident and illness, but not routine care. In the policy, routine care was defined as your annual checkup, vacc, worming, grooming etc. I haven't had to use it yet *touches wood*, but it's one of those things you hope to never have to use.

But yes, definitely look at the product statement/policy and know exactly what is covered and what is not.

I went with PetsBest. They are underwritten by Aetna which I have had them before and never had a problem plus they cover Accident, Illness and Injury. They showed me the state policy before hand and basically they were up front about EVERYTHING to me so we shall see. It even covers up to 200 for burial and Cremation, heredity problems, behavior conditions and it even covers pregnancy conditions, along with acupuncture and holistic vets. Up to 80% of every visit besides routine care which i could have added but didnt want to.

And it was only 33 a month and with Sci only getting older it cant hurt to have just in case.

at 33 a month, in less than a year they've covered the burial expense they'll pay.

How many vets accept this insurance?

I find the pet insurance industry to be nothing more than a scam preying on people's emotions rather than their senses. It won't be long till it's driven up the costs of vet care, just like with human insurance and will cover next to nothing.

They dont have a network they have a form you can give your vet and they will send the money to them.

WHen you dont always have the money to cover something that can go wrong and HAVE a dog hitting the senior years that is all of the sudden needing vet care every month or two it helps. I know if he DOES get majorly sick he will be cared for.

I've had Trupanion for my lil guy for almost a year now and have been really happy with them. I like that they are the only company that doesn't increase your premium every year that your pet ages and that they cover 90% of vet bills. I've had to file two claims already and they reimbursed me within 3-4 days. THey also dont have any benefit schedule things like other companies and you can even choose a $0. pretty helpful.

They cover stuff like vet bills, meds, surgeries, diagnostic tests, hereditary stuff, hip dysplasia and you can go to any vet you want.

Just make sure to shop around and compare policies and prices to make sure you are getting the best deal for your dog breed. :)

Here's a good comparison chart for all of teh companies : VPI vs. Trupanion > Compare Pet Insurance Companies | Trupanion Pet Insurance

and also a good unbiased review site : Pet Insurance Review - comparison of VPI, ASPCA, etc.

s and it even covers pregnancy conditions
Do not think you are going to have to worry about that ;) :rofl1::rofl1:

Looked into insurance, never got it. Really just looked into it for the ferrets, but really would only be able to get it for Renegade since 2 have pre-existing (eventually fatal) conditions.

I know I dont *if i did i would be worried since both are from shelters/rescues and are males LMAO*

but figured i would through that out there for anyone else. i thought it was rather weird and unusual.

The only thing for him that wouldnt be covered is his colitis but that is taken care of anyway.

Have you thought about just saving a little from each pay check for vet stuff? Instead of buying insurance. I know it's becoming more popular to just save a little each month.

Yes we do that but at the rate he is having these visits we cant save enough to cover them over and over. Plus we just found out some news that makes it almost impossible to continue putting money aside.

I am with you on that Breeze. Having insurance is like forced savings. If I put away the R300 every month that my premiums are, I will need 12 months to save towards what we spend on them every 3 to 4 months. Paul feels that I take them to the vet too much but I am not the kind of person who is willing to let them feel ill. Lilly and Travis were in this month for colitis and it ended up at R1200 for the two of them. If we had the insurance, it would have been R180. That is a MASSIVE saving.

Lilly cannot be on Petsure because of a pre-existing condition and I won't get caught with Travis and Riley, so they got chipped last night and they are on the plan as of next month. It will also cover Riley for pregnancy at a later stage. All in all, a total win.
