So, I've built a cubes & coroplast cage for the piggie sisters. It's still smaller than I'd like, but it's an upgrade from what they were in. I'll add a second level eventually and they'll have more room to roam. :) For now, they love the space and were hopping about while I was working today.

The bottom area is going to be storage for some of the stuff in my office. Dual purpose!

The whole thing.

Close up. The blue coroplast is covered in "under the sea" stickers that look really awesome. I've since removed the rainbowy shelter for more running space.

Mabel!

now I really want a piggie! That cage looks great-what did you use for the bottom of it?
Thanks! And I assume you mean the blue part? It's coroplast - a type of signboard that's inexpensive at most big home stores like Rona and Home Depot. It's essentially plastic cardboard - durable and easy to wash when changing bedding.

yes--the blue--and I know what that is now that you describe it--guess I never knew what it was called!

I miss my guinea pig. Maybe if he had had a bigger cage, he would have been happier. I let him run about my room and stuff though when I locked Meisha out.

They are both adorable! I've never had a guinea pig before, I really like them though.
Love the creativity in making the cage.

Yeah, since their cage is still a bit small, I make sure to give them some running time in the bathroom every so often. They seem to get a bit skittish about it all though. Mabel will wander around, hop about and explore, but Sable will find a corner.

It's weird. Sable doesn't mind being held once she's being held, but that may be fear?

Mabel <3 abbys are my favorite type!

Some piggies are more skittish than others. They are prey animals and are naturally wary of things bigger than they are. Sable may come around eventually, or she may always hide in a corner.

A suggestion for that cage, instead of two little squares, build one big rectangle. It will give them more space without the need for extra materials.

Yeah, I need to pick up spare cubes and it'll be cake to spread the cage out. The cage they were in before this was TINY, so I was eager to get them into something a bit more spacious for the time being.

I'm thinking I'm going to spread it into a 2x3 rectangle, and add some bottom structural cubes.

And yeah, many have told me Sable may always be skittish. If so, then I'll just go with it. She still happily bounces around the cage and vocalizes if I'm not too near, so she's happy and healthy. Just plays strange. :p
