The recent rat talk made me decide I should post some pics of my 2 girls. I adopted them in December from my school (without my mom's permission--bold move!).

The black & white hooded is Eve... the grayish(? not totally proficient in rat colors) hoodie is Poker.

Poker all snuggled up in fleece makes me wish I had a giant scrap of fleece to curl up in!

Juno is perplexed. And probably hungry.

A typical cage setup, before they decide to do a little interior decorating.

Rats can be litter trained. As for getting them without your parents permission... well. I find most people warm up to rats once they see how charming they are. When I had a bajillion my mom certainly did. She used to carry her favorite around with her everywhere.

Ehhh to an extent lol, but I don't know if they're ever 100%. Seems like you can get them to poop in the box, but peeing is a whole different issue lol.

Thanks guys! Foxy I'm the same way over dumbos lol. She was the only dumbo available and I just couldn't resist!

Are they kind of old? They look extremely skinny. What are you feeding them?

They look fine to me? I'm not even sure how you can even judge their body shapes by those pictures--they don't really show much. I don't know how old they are. Maybe close to 1 year (above or below, I don't know, but somewhere around there I'd assume). They get Wellness senior dog food and a homemade cereal mix. Free-fed.

their cage is so pretty! Im so used to seeing rats in those lil aquairums like at petsmart, that actually looks like a great lil hangout!

and I love the color scheme! Ive always heard rats are a lot like little dogs when it comes to their personalities, do you find that to be true?

They always do look a lil smarter than the average hamster lol

Uh they look fine to me. I don't own a rat. But have friends who do. And am a member of a Rat and Mouse forum.

Her rats look fine weight wise. And like she said those pictures airn't the best to judge.

Anyways...

Very beautiful girls :D

I had a Himalayan boy I took home when I worked at petsmart that I like to describe as the best dog I ever had ;) I took him to work with me on a regular basis, and I literally had a two year old grab onto him while he was on my shoulder and scream so loudly he spit on him. Petie. Never. Flinched. He had the most rock solid temperament of any pet I've ever had :) He went EVERYWHERE with me in the hood of my sweatshirt, and enjoyed sharing Wawa cookies and cream milk directly out of the bottle. I miss him dearly.

Lol that's what happens when you hang around rat forums all the time... otherwise they probably would have a super boring cage. =P

They are sooo like dogs! I've always said that if for whatever reason I couldn't have a dog, rats would be close enough! They greet you like dogs do, lol... all I have to do is walk into my bedroom and they go running to their cage door. They lay in my lap and give me kisses. They can be clicker trained! Lol I've never tried it but how cool is that :p They're much more interactive than most other small pets too. I gently wrestle them with my hands and they'll keep running back for more, they'll chase after their jingly ball if I shake it around and I have a cat teaser that they like chasing as well.

Yeah, smarter than hamsters... my hamsters enjoyed sleeping and eating and that was about it. Oh, and running on their wheel alllllll night. lol.

Why are people so obsessed with having fat pets??? They are perfect body weight. So cute, I want rats but I am afraid that I will be killed if I bring another animal home.

id say their coats look a little crazy in the pics, but thats more a "just woke up" and "hey my sister was fixing my hair" kind look...
but id say they look very well actually, rats show weightloss in the FACE first, bodies dont say much about a rats weight, especially in pictures...
but their faces are lovely and well filled...

very cute!
