So since I am being forced to live in PA this summer I've decided I'm going to occupy most of the time with working on Frodo's reactivity issues.

I sent out a bunch of emails to certified trainers and made it clear I was willing to travel (closest I've been able to find is about 1.5 hours each way that seems like they have a decent program), and I've gotten some good feedback except for the distance, they keep sending me to the sites with mileage counters. Well, there IS nothing closer (and if there is they are doing a darn good job of staying hidden!), and I don't know how to make it any clearer that if I have to travel I am more than happy to.

Hmph. This is frustrating.

I need sleep and this probably won't bother me nearly as much in the morning :lol-sign:

Ah, well, you know that they just don't want to have you commit to a number of lessons, only to ask for a refund later because you didn't realize how expensive it would be to drive. I know I've had clients do that before and it's extremely frustrating.

Good luck!

I know, it just sucks because I know they don't know me but even if I decided not to keep going there is no way I'd ask for a refund when it was ME who decided to stop going.

There is a behaviorist in my immediate area now, but she doesn't do group sessions for reactivity and I'm not sure I can afford the privates. She's got a ton of credentials and I've met her and she is super nice, but I think paying for group class and driving all that way would still be cheaper.

Have you considered NC for the summer? ;)

I'll train you and give the super special, only available to you "Because-It's-Frodo" discount. :p

When I first saw this thread I thought it was a different topic. I thought you had gotten into rowing because an "erg trainer" is something you use when you are training for the crew team. Anyway, ignore me and carry on.

I would love to be able to take advantage of that discount (and not break up the bromance), but unfortunately I need to work my tail off this summer to afford MN next semester :(

elegy, have you worked with Ali Brown? She is one of the people I was referred to and I've thought about buying her book 8 million times over the past few years, but still haven't read it or talked to anyone who has worked with her. I need to email her and figure out how much her private sessions are as her website says you have to do private sessions before group classes. Thanks!

:lol-sign: Drmom, I wish it was rowing! I walk over the Mississippi River to get to class during the week and I always see the row teams on the river and it's always something I have wanted to try. Though they only have a men's club here and the dues are hella expensive to join sports here :(

i haven't worked with her, but i have her scaredy dog book and her other reactive dog class book (focus not fear?) and they're both really good. based on her books, i'd love to work with her.

(she's judging luce's rally trial next month too lol)

i don't know how far you are from pamela dennison but that might be another option. Pamela Dennison's Positive Motivation Dog Training in Belvidere New Jersey i'd possibly give a kidney to work with her.

You are just hitting every single trainer that I've been looking into :lol-sign:
I also have an email out to her waiting for a response as you need 6 privates with her before moving into the class work. My biggest issue is I have time constraints, I will be in PA from mid-late May to mid-late August, so it is a smallish time frame.

She is in New Jersey about 1.5 hours away from me, EVERYBODY is between 1.5-2 hours away, lol.

If I have to do privates and they are going to be expensive I will probably work with the trainer who is local to Bloomsburg as I don't know that I can afford privates and the gas to get there every week.

I haven't worked with Ali- but she has been the judge at several Rally trials we have been in.........she seems very nice, down to earth type person.

We do take lessons with Pam though................and my spectacularly reactive girl has improved , like 1000% She does L2 rally........eek, off leash in public- I do sweat that out a bit- always watching her for little signs, as she can still have her moments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where are you in Pa- would bangor be closer- Raspberry Ridge does group reactive dog classes (and you can herd SHEEP there too!!!)

My issue with Raspberry Ridge is that you have to take their seminar first, and I will not be on the East Coast for any of the seminar dates :/

Thanks for the input!

Well, I was going to suggest Pam Dennison, too. I know she does a lot of work with aggressive/reactive dogs. She's about 15 minutes from me.

Where in PA will you be?
