Hello all,
We have had a bit of bad weather here, rain, wind, nothing major, but both of our dogs hate walking in the rain. Walks become more like me pulling them along the ground, and them digging their paws into the cement to try and get home. They are both fine going out to go to the bathroom, so no worries there. But, while one dog is perfectly content to sleep all day and never take a walk, the other gets bored after a couple of hours. I am just looking for a couple of ideas to get her brain working while inside. When she's active, I do the following:

  • Kong (and other toys stuffed with treats).
  • Treats hidden around the house.
  • Training for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Chew toys

Any other suggestions on things I can use to get her to burn off physical and mental energy? She is good that she has not had any interest in destroying any of our stuff, and I want to make sure it stays that way.

Thanks.

Teach her a new trick?
Those were some of my ideas, too. We taught "hide recalls" in puppy class- put her in a sit/stay, hide and call her. Caleb gets a good work out chasing the laser pointer, too. You have to be carefull with that, tho. I've heard of dogs that have become obsessed with flashing lights because of playing like that.

Thought I should back this up. My sister's dog is OCD about ANY kind of light now and it's solely because we started playing with the laser lights. She even chases sparks from campfires. It's bad.

She has no interest in the lights. But, she does enjoy chasing the cat that chases the light. Since the cat is about the same size, they play together very well.
