Just thought I would start making little breed profiles, so people might learn about different breeds and at the same time become educated about them. I'm also bored.:p
Aberdeen Terrier
Also known as: Scottish Terrier or "Scotty"
History: Originally breed to hunt down vermin in the Scottish countryside. King James VI was the man responsible for the popularity in of the breed in Scotland. They were introduced to the Americas in the 1890's.
Temperament:They are more terrierish then most terriers. They tend to be independent and are known for their stubbornness. They are also intelligent and playful.
Grooming: The coat requires regular clipping and brushing to retain the "Scotty" shape.
Health: Von Willebrand Disease, craniomandibular osteopathy,Scottie cramp, luxating patella, cerebellar abiotrophy, and cancer have all been seen in this breed. They generally live from 11 to 13 years.
Colors: Dark Grey, Jet Black, and Brindle. Wheaten coat sometimes occurs, but don't confuse them with Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers or West Highland White Terriers.

That guy looks brindle to me, just very faintly brindled. I dunno what colors scotties can come in honestly, lol. I know black, brindle, and fawn (I think it's called something else though).
Their 'fawn' is called wheaten. It's very pretty ...

The standard just says black, brindle and wheaten. Our next door neighbor had a wheaton one named Rusty when I was growing up. He was one of my favorite dogs. Apparently he bit kids, but he never got me. His owner was nice too, he said I was one of the only kids Rusty liked, lol.

One of the clients at the clinic swears she has a white scottie. I think it's an overgrown Westie....considering someone tried to pass off a Boston as a "miniature boxer" xD

Brindle Scotties 0nly really look brindled if you clip them short. But if yoiu want to maintain a scottie's coat properly you never clip it, but strip it, and tidy up with scissors. Clipping makes the coat softer, and you want the harshest wiriest coat you can get.

The most popular color is black, but brindles and the gray or grizzled dogs tend to have better coat texture, and the wheatens really tend to a soft coat.

I just love Scottish Terriers, with their gruff difficult dispositions. All of the ones I had were smart, loyal, stubborn, and downright funny. Just watching a nice one walk, with their jaunty trot and Franz Joseph eyebrows and beard will make most people smile.

I have a Scottish terrier named Casey. He is black and a pain in the *** ha ha J/K they have loads of personality and spunk. He is a dog that you would consider weird and we end up always giving him funny looks because he is doing something odd.

They are VERY outgoing and Casey loves to be outside running around and searching the woods, also they have a very large and loud bark and growl. If you never saw the dog and heard his bark and growl you would think he was 200 pound of pure meaness. He has a way bigger bark and growl than my 110 pound Bouvier.

Another thing is they are crazy stubborn, compared to the westie they are bricks of unpliable conrete and westies are jello. HAHA.
