I wanted to post a few pictures of my new foster (I've had her for about a week). She's a purebred Catahoula leopard dog. She's 6 months old, but she's completely deaf. I know that's an issue with the breed. She's also got abnormal pupils, but can see just fine. Her name is Callie :)

She's already GREAT with commands--- Sit, Down, Stay, Shake, wait, okay, watch me, and drop it. She's made leaps and bounds in improvements in her house manners and leash manners. She doesn't really know she's a catahoula, she acts like a labrador puppy LOL

She's in Southeast michigan if anybody's intersted!

She's a cutie. Her eyes say "let's play". I hope she finds a loving home.

She's gorgeous!

She reminds me a lot of Cheza's girl, Lyra. That same "I can't hear you but I still love you let's play!' look in her eyes.

Oh she's adorable! I rescued a pup back in November that is at least part Catahoula. I've always wondered if she is in fact mixed or not, looking at Callie there are quite a few similarities. Especially with the ears.

Here's Isabelle:

She is lovely, but what are you guys saying about the eyes saying play with me? I see puppy on crack eyes.

The Iamgoingtostarerightintoyourbrain look.

I've found that's common among deaf dogs...they over compensate with the staring because they can't hear you. Cheza's Lyra stares much like that, because she' trying to pick up on every. single. body cue that she can, because she can't hear anything.

Now when a hearing dog stares at you like that, best make sure there's not a steak hanging from your neck, :lol-sign:

She does use her vision to compensate for lack of hearing, no doubt about that. But she does have abnormal pupils. Either her pupils don't open as much as they should, or there's crystallization in them. Or the iris overlaps part of it... I don't remember exactly what the vet said. He said she may have tunnel vision, but she seems to see just fine! She would have to go to a specialist to find out for sure. I also met the adopter of her brother, and that dog is deaf and has vision problems.

Poor girl - sounds like she got the s*** end of some bad breeding.

I hope you enjoy her though. I love my catahoula. :) Although my dog is kind of a freak and is nothing like what I read about the breed. But that's alright with me, it's all good.

Hope she (and her brother) get a great forever home.

I love your Isabelle! I definitely think she has a lot of catahoula in her. She's gorgeous regardless.

I want her! I love the breed and am not put off by deafness. Unfortunatly, I think Argon would pack up and move out if I brought a high energy crack monkey home! Then again, that's pretty much what Neon was...

Well, Taz did say she was more like a lab puppy than a houla. ;)
